AWS Elastic Load Balancing/EC2 Networking is looking for a Software Development Engineer for a critical part of its service that delivers a distributed Network Function Virtualization (NFV) platform. This team owns the data plane systems used for both customer-facing services such as NAT Gateway, Elastic File System, Load Balancers, AWS service endpoints as well as many internal AWS services. This is a balanced team of senior and junior engineers that has proven it can deliver very important features for our customers. This engineer will work on a key part of the service, setting the team culture, best practices, mentoring, and delivering on the product roadmap. The successful candidate will be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, be very customer-centric and able to think big!

This person has a proven track record of building a culture centered on customer focus, efficient execution, high quality, rigorous testing, deep monitoring, and solid deployment practices. AWS in general, and this business in particular, operates at very large scale and on critical workloads, so a passion and discipline around operational excellence is key. A high level of ownership and accountability is a must.

Key job responsibilities

Technical Delivery

• Design, develop, and deploy scalable networking solutions for AWS services including VPC, EFS, ELB, and EC2

• Build next-generation networking infrastructure that operates at massive scale with high reliability

• Write clean, maintainable code that meets Amazon's quality standards and passes rigorous testing

Operational Excellence

• Own operational health of services, including monitoring, alarming, and incident response

• Participate in on-call rotation and drive root cause analysis for operational issues

• Implement automated testing, deployment pipelines, and isolation mechanisms to improve system reliability

Collaboration & Innovation

• Work closely with AWS service teams to understand requirements and deliver networking solutions that eliminate customer pain points

• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical designs for new features

• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members

Growth & Mentorship

• Mentor junior engineers on technical best practices, coding standards, and operational excellence

• Stay current with networking technologies and AWS services

• Contribute to team processes and help raise the bar on engineering practices

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience

  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience

  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
