We are seeking a highly motivated Development & NPI Hardware Test Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team developing and manufacturing advanced robotic and electromechanical medical systems.
This role sits at the intersection of hardware development, robotics, mechanical systems, and software automation. The engineer will design and deploy test solutions supporting new product development, validation, and manufacturing scale-up of complex robotic systems.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on systems engineer who enjoys working across engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, robotics, and software, to build robust test systems that enable reliable product performance and scalable manufacturing.
You will work closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Systems Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to develop and deploy automated test infrastructure supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and production manufacturing.
Key Role Responsibilities
Test System Development & Automation
Design, develop, and deploy automated test systems and fixtures for complex electromechanical assemblies and robotic subsystems.
Architect hardware and software test infrastructure supporting product development, validation, and manufacturing environments.
Develop data acquisition systems, test algorithms, and automated test scripts with strong emphasis on repeatability, traceability, and reliability.
Write robust and maintainable test automation software using Python, C++, MATLAB, or similar scripting languages.
Develop reusable test frameworks, APIs, and libraries used across multiple manufacturing and development teams.
Hardware Validation & Electrical Debugging
Perform board-level, subsystem-level, and full system testing of electrical and electronic systems.
Debug and validate PCBA designs, power electronics, sensors, motor drivers, communication interfaces, and embedded systems.
Develop validation procedures using advanced instrumentation including:
Oscilloscopes
Logic analyzers
Power analyzers
Data acquisition systems
Support testing activities including EMI/ESD analysis, signal integrity, thermal performance, and system reliability.
Participate in design reviews, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.
Mechanical & Electromechanical Systems Testing
Design and develop mechanical test fixtures and tooling for validation and manufacturing testing.
Collaborate with mechanical engineering teams to evaluate actuators, motors, gear trains, encoders, and motion mechanisms.
Support testing of robotic kinematic chains, motion systems, and electromechanical subsystems.
Evaluate mechanical tolerances, alignment, vibration, and thermal effects that influence system performance.
Contribute to Design for Test (DFT), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA) strategies.
Robotics & System Integration
Support integration and validation of robotic subsystems and electromechanical platforms.
Develop test methodologies for systems involving:
Motion control
Sensors
Actuators
Embedded electronics
Communication networks
Work closely with systems engineers to validate system requirements, performance, and reliability.
Contribute to testing of robotic architectures involving motor control, encoders, and industrial communication networks.
Manufacturing & New Product Introduction (NPI)
Support NPI activities by developing scalable manufacturing test processes.
Deploy and validate test systems in manufacturing environments and contract manufacturing sites.
Perform root cause analysis and failure investigations to improve yield and reliability.
Develop tools and automation to improve test coverage, cycle time, and production throughput.
Work with data platforms to automate manufacturing data analysis and reporting.
Documentation & Compliance
Author technical documentation including:
Test procedures
Validation protocols
Design verification reports
Manufacturing test documentation
Support product development in regulated environments, including medical device standards.
Participate in risk assessments, FMEA analysis, and design reviews.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
5+ years of experience working on complex electromechanical or robotic systems.
Strong hands-on experience with hardware debugging and system integration.
Experience developing automated test systems or test software.
Programming experience using Python, C++, MATLAB, or similar scripting languages.
Experience using engineering test instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, and data acquisition systems.
Solid understanding of electrical systems including analog and digital electronics.
Experience debugging embedded systems and communication interfaces.
Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working on robotic or mechatronic systems.
Understanding of motor control systems, encoders, actuators, and motion control architectures.
Experience designing or reviewing PCB schematics and electronic hardware.
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, CAN, SPI, I2C, or Ethernet.
Experience developing manufacturing test solutions or automated test equipment.
Familiarity with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Creo.
Experience in regulated industries such as medical devices, aerospace, or automotive.
Understanding of EMC/EMI testing, ESD, and reliability validation.
Experience with PLM systems such as Agile or Windchill.
