Northeast KY Community Action Agency Classroom Aide in Sandy Hook, Kentucky

Under the guidance of the lead teacher, will assist with the provision of classroom activities and nutrition services in the Head Start classroom and with the sanitation of the Head Start site.Essential Job Functions: Perform tasks as assigned by the lead teacher, which may include gathering, preparing, organizing, and storing classroom materials, working with individual or small groups of children, monitoring small group activities, and assisting in maintaining a developmentally appropriate and safe environment. Assist staff in setting up and taking down classroom equipment as needed; assist staff in maintaining safety and cleanliness of the classroom, possessing knowledge of basic sanitation and housekeeping procedures, and good personal hygiene habits. Provide direct assistance as needed to children, including assistance with toileting, dental care, and health checks; and assistance with mealtime routines such as serving of meals, snacks, and clean-up. Greet people in the classroom, including but not limited to children, parents, volunteers, and visitors. Work with young children, who may be from low-income families, in an accepting, positive manner, work as a team member with educational staff, and develop a relationship with parents, volunteers, and children. Use the team approach to resolving problems or conflicts. Demonstrate professional and effective written and verbal communication skills; receive information and feedback in an understanding manner; use good judgment. Assist with transportation as needed, including, but not limited to, transportation of children to participate in the Head Start program, for health services, and on field trips, complying with Head Start transportation procedures. Complete six hours of orientation training within 90 days of employment and 12 additional childcare training hours for a total of 18 hours during the first year of employment and acquire 18 hours of childcare training hours annually thereafter, plus other training as outlined in the program’s policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, Head Start Director, or Early Childhood Services Coordinator.Key Performance Area: Work Habits and Practices Report to work on a regular or non-regular schedule, based on need, determined by the Head Start Director or Early Childhood Services Coordinator. Maintain confidentiality of program, staff, and client information and exercise good judgment concerning privileged information. Accept responsibility for the quality of job performance; seek guidance when needed, incorporate constructive direction from supervisor to improve job performance, and make changes as needed. Continue to increase professional knowledge, skills, and competencies in job-related areas; incorporate and demonstrate new knowledge and skills on the job. Attend meetings as requested by the Head Start Director, lead teacher, or Early Childhood Services Coordinator.Education and Other Requirements High school diploma or GED Ability to manage physically active children ages 3-5, within a weight range of up to 50 pounds, including guiding, pursuing, preventing the child from harming himself, another child, or an adult, and being capable of managing sudden movements. Ability to stand, walk, climb, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and use effective communication.Preference Given To Parent of Head Start child, classroom aide or regular volunteer.
