Firelands Regional Medical Center Phlebotomist (Certified) - FT (1st shift) in Sandusky, Ohio

GENERAL SUMMARY AND SCOPE

Responsible for clerical functions, computer functions, patient phlebotomy duties, and other specimen collection procedures.

  • Retention Bonus: $2,500 - $5,000! (based on experience)

    ESSENTIAL TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greets patients and correctly, enters physician orders into the laboratory computer system obtaining any necessary information from the outpatients.

  • Performs patient registration duties as required.

  • Performs proper patient identification during all specimen collections.

  • Answers phones, completes requests, and relays messages.

  • Maintains current knowledge of all computer applications necessary to carry out job duties.

  • Provides clear and complete communication and documentation to co-workers, patients, and clients using all tools available.

  • Regularly demonstrates the ability to serve patients of all ages in the routine performance of duties.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certificate preferred.

  • Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.

  • Must be currently certified in CPR/BLS (and recertified bi-annually).

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a positive impression of the Medical Center at all times. Ability to handle sensitive telephone and face-to-face inquiries.

  • Computer skills required.

  • Ability to be mobile.

  • Ability to read and write small letters and numbers.

  • Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required.

  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands' auto policy. Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form to management, co-workers, patients, visitors, and members of the general public.

  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Medical Center emergency codes.

  • Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment. Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.

  • Successful completion of a ninety (90) day get‑acquainted period.
