Job Title: Assembly Tech Lead

Job Description

The Assembly Tech Lead supervises all areas of assembly within a manufacturing plant to ensure production deadlines and schedules are met. This role plans and directs workflow by clearly communicating task lists, coordinating activities across departments, and ensuring that each task is completed efficiently and safely. The Assembly Tech Lead upholds quality standards so that customer expectations are consistently met or exceeded and supports the overall operational goals of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage assembly employees to ensure adherence to operational and quality procedures.

  • Plan, organize, and direct workflow through the communication of clear task lists to assembly team members.

  • Manage work in progress and maintain the shop production schedule, coordinating all production activity with the fabrication foreman and other departments, including first process and paint/blast.

  • Ensure all assembly tasks are completed safely and meet customer delivery expectations and quality standards.

  • Oversee personnel matters within the assembly area, including performance oversight, employee relations issues, and participation in the disciplinary process in line with company policies and management guidance.

  • Organize, implement, and maintain a shop mentoring program for new and less experienced assemblers to support skills development and consistent work quality.

  • Verify parts against piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) drawings and bills of materials (BOM) to ensure correct components are used in assembly.

  • Perform and oversee instrumentation and tubing fitting work to support accurate mechanical assembly.

  • Cut and thread piping according to specifications and safety standards.

  • Measure, bend, and install 3/8-inch stainless steel tubing accurately and efficiently.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and other technical drawings to guide assembly activities.

  • Use a tape measure accurately to within 1/16 of an inch and apply this precision in all assembly tasks.

  • Use appropriate hand tools and equipment to complete mechanical assembly tasks safely and correctly.

  • Coordinate with other departments to maintain smooth production flow and resolve issues that impact schedule adherence.

  • Ensure all hours worked are logged to the proper job and prepare weekly reporting to support payroll accuracy.

Essential Skills

  • Proven supervisory or lead experience of 2+ years leading a team in mechanical assembly.

  • Strong experience in mechanical assembly within a production or manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to verify parts against P&ID drawings and bills of materials with a high level of accuracy.

  • Hands-on experience with instrumentation and tubing fitting in an assembly setting.

  • Ability to cut and thread piping safely and to specification.

  • Skill in measuring, bending, and installing 3/8-inch stainless steel tubing.

  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately to within 1/16 of an inch.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.

  • Competent use of hand tools required for mechanical assembly work.

  • Ability to plan, schedule, and manage production activities to meet deadlines.

  • Strong communication skills to clearly direct work and provide feedback to assembly employees.

  • Ability to enforce and support adherence to operational, safety, and quality procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supervising assembly employees in a manufacturing or fabrication shop environment.

  • Experience coordinating production activities with multiple departments, such as fabrication and paint/blast.

  • Experience managing work in progress and maintaining a shop production schedule.

  • Familiarity with handling performance discussions, employee relations issues, and disciplinary processes in alignment with company policies.

  • Experience mentoring or training new and less experienced assemblers.

  • Strong organizational skills to track labor hours accurately and report weekly for payroll purposes.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to meeting customer delivery expectations and quality standards.

Work Environment

This role operates on a weekend shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday through Sunday, working 36 hours with pay equivalent to a 40-hour workweek. The position is based in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment typical of fabrication shops. You can expect exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, and metal particles. The work involves regular use of hand tools and mechanical assembly equipment. Personal protective equipment is required, including hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, and OSHA-compliant safety boots

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sand Springs, OK.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
