Position Description
The Interior Design Program at Texas State University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Instruction. The program seeks candidates with expertise in immersive technologies (e.g., VR/AR) and research or design experience related to mental health and well-being in the built environment. This specialization will support the program’s strategic focus on emerging design technologies, evidence-based design, and interdisciplinary research addressing health and wellness in interior environments. This is a 9-month renewable appointment with the possibility of summer teaching. As a part of theSchool of Family and Consumer Sciences (https://www.fcs.txst.edu/) , the Interior Design program enrolls approximately 500 majors with 17 full-time faculty members serving the program. Graduates from our Council for Interior Design Accreditation ( CIDA ) accredited interior design program are qualified for careers helping others improve interior environments while expressing their own creative abilities. Graduates are academically prepared to take the NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) examination that must be passed to register as an interior designer in Texas and many other states. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses, supervising design projects and portfolio development, developing and revising curriculum to meet accreditation standards and engaging in appropriate levels of service to the school, college and to the profession.
Required Qualifications
College-level teaching experience in interior design or a related discipline.
Graduate degree in interior design or an allied design field (MS, MFA , MID , M Arch etc.).
Proficiency in design-related software, such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Sketch-up.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in interior design or a closely related field.
Ability to teach interior design studios and lectures implementing VR or AR components.
Professional or academic experience in mental health-related disciplines.
Active involvement in relevant professional organizations.
