Position Description
TheDepartment of Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education, and School Psychology ( CLAS ) (https://www.txst.edu/clas.html) in the College of Education at Texas State University, a Hispanic-Serving Institution ( HSI ) located in San Marcos, Texas, invites applications for a non-tenure-line assistant professor of instruction position beginning August 2026. This position involves teaching, research, service, and program support in a vibrant Bachelor of General Studies program in Central Texas. Specific responsibilities include teaching courses in integrated studies and service to the program, department, university, and profession.
Program:Integrated Studies undergraduate degree. This position will include teaching the interdisciplinary capstone courses in our program. The successful candidate will be headquartered on the San Marcos campus and may teach courses on both the main university campus in San Marcos and at the university’s Round Rock campus.
Department:The CLAS Department serves approximately 975 students seeking undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Professional Counseling ( COUN ), Educational and Community Leadership ( EDCL ), Adult, Professional, and Community Education ( APCE ), School Psychology ( SPSY ), Student Affairs in Higher Education ( SAHE ), and Integrated Studies ( INTS ). The CLAS Department provides high quality undergraduate and graduate education to promote significant transformational changes in communities, schools, organizations, and institutions locally and globally. Guided by expert faculty who are deeply engaged in innovative research and dedicated to student success, CLAS students grow into leaders and changemakers in schools, communities, and organizations across Texas and beyond. Required Qualifications
Required qualifications for Assistant Professor of Instruction rank:
·Doctorate or master’s degree in an academic discipline compatible with the Bachelor of General Studies ( BGS ), such as social sciences, fine arts and communication, business administration, humanities, or natural sciences.
Minimum two years of full- or part-time high quality teaching experience at a college or university.
Leadership/service experience at university, college, department, program, professional, and/or community levels.
Record of interdisciplinary teaching, scholarship, or service (e.g., collaborative research, professional associations).
Evidence of innovative teaching strategies.
Experience integrating career development or professional workforce preparation into academic instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications for Assistant Professor of Instruction rank:
Experience teaching courses within an interdisciplinary or general studies program.
Teaching experience across more than one academic discipline.
Record of excellence in teaching as evidenced by awards, grants, state/national presentations, and other academic achievements in teaching.
Record of excellence in service as evidenced by awards, grants, state/national presentations, and other academic achievements in service.
Experience collaborating with career services, academic advising, and/or success coaching.
