Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
Minimum of two years of professional work experience within facility operations (e.g. Campus Recreation, Fitness, Aquatics, Outdoors, etc.) or related field
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, Health Education, Sport Management, Turf Management, Higher Education, or related field
Progressively responsible experience within campus recreation or related field.
Current CPR , AED , First Aid and or ability to obtain within 45 days
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supervising full time staff in a higher education setting
Master’s degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, Health Education, Sport Management, Turf Management, Higher Education, or related field
In-depth knowledge of turfgrass species, cultivation practices, soil science, irrigation systems, pest management, and turf equipment operation
Current Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License
Job Description
The Assistant Director of Facilities and Grounds will lead and manage the administration and operation of the Facilities program, consisting of all Campus Recreation special events, Grounds Operations, Custodial Operations and Building Maintenance Operations in the pursuit of inspiring Bobcats to be their best and create lasting memories. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for the development and oversight of an 8-person Custodial team, two Maintenance Worker II positions, and a 5-person Grounds crew.
Job Duties
Facility Management/Maintenance, Turf Maintenance: 30%
Develop and manage a diverse Facilities program including the administration of all campus recreation grounds operations, custodial operations and building maintenance operations.
Oversee the daily facility activities, including custodial, maintenance, repairs and safety inspections on facility systems, including HVAC , plumbing, electrical and structural components. Oversee the preparation and upkeep of sports fields, including mowing, fertilization and pest control to ensure optimal playing conditions.
Oversee work order and asset management tracking systems.
Implement innovative ideas that align with strategic plan and department priorities to improve overall operations and growth of programs/services/usage.
Develop and conduct assessments of program goals annually. Report assessment results to leadership as documentation of programmatic outcomes supporting department and division goals.
Staff Development and Oversight: 30%
Oversee the development and performance evaluation of an 8-person Custodial team, two Maintenance Worker II positions, and a 5-person Grounds crew.
Meet with full time staff regularly to discuss program goals, professional goals and area updates.
Develop and oversee staff schedules and project lists to ensure timely completion and tracking.
With the potential to hire, train, supervise, and evaluate approximately 5 student staff.
Administration and Budget Development: 20%
Lead annual budget development process in collaboration with Coordinator, Maintenance Worker II and Grounds crew.
Plan, prepare and manage program budgets including overseeing income projections and monitoring income, expenses, and yearly comparisons.
Purchase equipment and supplies.
Approve staff time and ensure compliance with payroll and purchasing processes.
Risk Management and Safety: 10%
Ensure staff compliance with industry standard safety and risk management practices, facility and equipment inspections, and established Campus Recreation policies and procedures.
Knowledge of applicable regulations, environmental guidelines, and safety standards governing turf management practices. Familiarity with pesticide regulations, water conservation measures, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
Other Duties: 10%
Actively participate in departmental programs and projects designed to support the mission and goals of the university, division, and department.
Serve on committees and task forces, as assigned.

This position requires a flexible work schedule which at times will require frequent attendance during evenings and weekends. Additional hours may be required during peak periods.
