Jacobs Structural Engineering Professional Intermediate in San Jose, California

As a Structural Engineer professional based within our Advanced Manufacturing team, work on a variety of projects related to Data Centers, including new builds, retrofits, colocations, etc. Perform various aspects of structural engineering assignments, subsequently increasing the depth and breadth of familiarity with design methods and tools. Be a key asset, contributing to, working with a diverse team of engineers and designers on various size capital projects. Liaise with other internal professionals and design departments for project delivery and coordinate designs with other Jacobs offices both domestic and international.

Other key contributions include: Perform a variety of analysis. Create computer models for structures. Perform calculations for member designs and foundations, material take-offs for estimating, preparation of miscellaneous calculations, assisting with schedules, etc. RFI Response & Coordination: Respond promptly to Requests for Information (RFIs) and coordinate with other teams (architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Process (MEP), etc.) as needed to resolve issues on a short timeline. Submittal and Product Data Review: Review and assess submittal, product data, and materials as part of the Service During Construction (SDC) team. Ensure compliance with project specifications, building codes, and quality standards. Field Observation and Reporting: Conduct field walks with team leads to identify potential issues and perform structural observations. Document and create detailed Field Observation Reports, providing solutions to any observed concerns. Peer Review of Calculation Packages: Review and provide feedback on structural calculation packages before Issuance for Construction (IFC), ensuring accuracy, code compliance, and design quality. Ownership of Structural Scope: Take complete ownership of the assigned portion of the structural scope, ensuring the work is completed on time and meets the required quality standards. Structural Design & Analysis: Design and analyze structural models using ETABS, ensuring the structures meet all performance criteria, including seismic and wind loads. Coordination with Utility Support Teams: Collaborate with Utility Support teams to provide necessary supports for MEP racks within the primary building structure. Coordinate integration of MEP systems with the structural design, ensuring compatibility and adherence to project requirements. Seismic Design Knowledge: Develop and apply knowledge of seismic design principles and practices, ensuring compliance with relevant building codes. Leadership and Team Development: Willingness to take on increasing responsibility, including overseeing a small team (2-3 people), and supporting the development and training of interns and entry level engineers.

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a master's degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field and 2 years of work experience in the job offered or related occupation. As an alternative, employer will accept a bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field and 4 years of work experience in the job offered or related occupation.

SPECIFIC SKILLS: Must possess expertise/ knowledge sufficient to adequately perform the duties of the job being offered. Expertise/ knowledge may be gained through employment experience or education. Such expertise/ knowledge cannot be "quantified" by "time." Required expertise/ knowledge includes: US building codes including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and AISC. Structural analysis and design software, particularly ETABS and SAP2000 Semi-conductor industrial or general industrial facilities. RISA, STAAD, Navisworks, RAM connections, spColumn. CAD software such as: AutoCad, Revit, MicroStation and S3D ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, AIST Technical Report 13, and other industry relevant design code and standards. Field observation, RFI response, and submittal reviews. MEP coordination and understanding of building systems integration.

Must possess an Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
