CBRE Reliability Program/Engineering Ops Director - onsite: San Jose, CA in San Jose, California
About the Role:
As a CBRE Reliability Program Director ,you will lead the team and programs responsible for optimizing the performance andreliability of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems while ensuring continuity,uptime, and quality control across all properties. You willcombine engineeringoperations leadership with reliability engineering discipline tomonitor, analyze, and resolve system and infrastructure issues—especiallywithin mission-criticaloperational environments —and drive consistent preventivemaintenance and repair performance.
This role ispart of the Engineeringand Technical Services job function and is responsible forproviding support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment andsystems, while elevating reliability standards across the portfolio.
What You’ll Do:
· Own portfolio performance and financial results by overseeing abusiness unit’s operating performance, approving annual budgets, and drivingcost, risk, and reliability outcomes across properties and mission-criticalenvironments.
· Lead and develop the engineering operationsteam through formal supervision, recruiting and hiring, performance evaluations,coaching, and training plans—ensuring the team is staffed, skilled, andcross-trained to execute consistently.
· Direct day-to-day engineering operations by coordinatingworkload, establishing schedules, assigning tasks, tracking deadlines, andensuring continuity, quality control, and compliance across all sites.
· Manage vendors and contracted services by approvingcontractors/subcontractors based on facility need, implementing biddingprocedures as required, and negotiating with external partners to deliver safe,cost-effective, and reliable outcomes.
· Drive asset performance through reliabilitydiscipline bydefining, designing, developing, monitoring, and refining maintenance plans forMEP systems and fixed assets; providing technical support and reliabilityguidance to site teams.
· Evaluate assets and eliminate repeat failures by partnering withengineering and operations teams to assess asset condition and performance,analyze trends, identify faults/symptoms, and implement corrective actions thatimprove uptime and lifecycle performance.
· Lead risk-based reliability planning by developing riskmanagement plans that anticipate reliability-related and operational risks thatcould negatively impact plant or facility operations and coordinatingmitigation actions.
· Troubleshoot and restore critical systems by diagnosing routinetechnical service and equipment problems, restoring functionality, andstrengthening processes to prevent recurrence.
· Direct facility controls and asset managementsystems toensure effective monitoring, maintenance execution, documentation accuracy, andoperational visibility for decision-making.
· Maintain governance, documentation, andstandards by ensuring policies and procedures are followed, documentation is current (PMschedules, configurations, applications, technical references), and standardsare improved where needed.
· Improve methods and raise standards by identifying andsolving complex operational and organizational problems, significantlyimproving processes, and implementing new approaches that elevate reliabilityand operational performance.
· Influence across teams and stakeholders by applying broadbusiness and technical knowledge to drive cross-functional outcomes, explainsensitive topics, build consensus, and persuade others toward alignedexecution.
· Model CBRE RISE values and leadership behaviors by leading by example,operating within broad guidelines, exercising sound judgment based on multipleinputs, and delivering measurable impact across customer, operational, project,and service activities.
What You’ll Need:
· Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree inan Engineering discipline preferred with 8–12years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, anequivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
· People Leadership: Preferred experiencein staffing and talent management, including selection, training, development, coaching, mentoring,performance measurement/appraisal, recognition/reward, and retention .
· Communication & Influence: Ability to lead theexchange of sensitive,complicated, and difficult information , clearly conveyperformance expectations, and effectively address and resolve issues.
· Leadership & Execution: Proven leadershipskills to set, manage, andachieve targets with direct impact on results across multipledepartments or teams within a function.
· Judgment & Problem Solving: Ability to exercise sound judgment based on analysis of multiple information sources; willingness to take new perspectives onexisting solutions to solve problems.
· Tools & Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
· Organization & Mindset: Strong organizationalskills paired with an advancedinquisitive mindset ; demonstrated ability to manage priorities,details, and deadlines.
· Financial Acumen: Preferred experiencedeveloping and managing organizationalbudgets ; sophisticated math skills with the ability tocalculate mildly complex figures (percentages, fractions, and financial-relatedcalculations).
· Physical Requirements: Ability to meetphysical demands including stooping,standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders , and the ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. or more .

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the Reliability Program Director position is $155,000 annually and the maximum salary is 175,000 annually. The compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on their skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE’s applicable benefit program. This role will provide the following benefits: 401(K), Dental insurance, Health insurance, Life insurance, and Vision insurance.
