Robert Half Property Accountant in San Francisco, California
Description
A growing San Francisco–based real estate company is seeking a contract Property Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations across a portfolio of properties. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning property-level reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and partnering closely with asset management, operations, and property management teams.
Responsibilities:
Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential properties
Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and variance analyses
Record and reconcile rent rolls, CAM recoveries, and tenant billings
Review, code, and approve property-level invoices and journal entries
Perform month-end close activities, including accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and balance sheet accounts
Track and reconcile security deposits, prepaid expenses, and reserves
Support annual budgets, forecasts, and operating expense reconciliations
Prepare audit support and work directly with external auditors as needed
Partner with property managers and asset management to resolve discrepancies and improve reporting processes

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
3+ years of experience in property accounting or real estate accounting
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and real estate accounting principles
Experience with property management/accounting systems such as Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, or similar
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management skills
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with cross-functional teams
Proven ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
