Robert Half Legal Secretary in San Francisco, California

Description

A San Francisco-based solo plaintiff-side personal injury practice is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Secretary to provide short-term maternity leave coverage. The assignment will begin April 24th with one day of cross-training and continue through mid-June, working on a hybrid schedule of three days onsite and two days remote. This role will support one attorney and requires someone who can step in quickly, manage deadlines independently, and handle state and federal filings with minimal supervision. This is a lean environment where the legal secretary serves as the primary support resource, so the ideal candidate is comfortable working autonomously and managing a small but active litigation docket.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage litigation calendaring and track deadlines across active matters

  • Prepare, format, and file pleadings in California state and federal courts

  • Type and format attorney-drafted or dictated briefs, pleadings, and correspondence

  • Prepare proofs of service and filing packages

  • Coordinate e-filing and service of documents

  • Maintain organized case files and monitor approximately 15 active matters

  • Assist with document preparation, copying, and general litigation support tasks

  • Open and scan incoming mail and assist with light administrative support as needed

  • Check voicemail and assist with basic office coordination

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of litigation legal secretary experience required

  • Experience with California state and federal e-filing required

  • Strong calendaring and deadline management skills

  • Experience formatting pleadings and litigation documents

  • Civil litigation experience required; plaintiff-side personal injury preferred

  • Ability to work independently supporting a solo attorney

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and litigation document formatting

Additional Details:

  • Hybrid schedule with at least 3 days onsite required

  • Attorney drafts his own pleadings; role focuses on formatting, filing, and deadline management

This is an excellent opportunity for a litigation legal secretary seeking a short-term engagement in a professional, low-volume but deadline-driven litigation environment.
