We have an exciting opportunity for a Construction Project Accountant to support our Facilities Team in San Diego, CA!
The Construction Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial tracking, reporting, and administrative support of construction and capital projects from initiation through closeout. This role partners closely with project managers, procurement, accounts payable, and finance teams to ensure project costs are accurately recorded, monitored, and reported across systems.
The ideal candidate has experience with Procore Financial Management modules and SAP, along with a strong understanding of construction cost tracking, invoice processing, forecasting, and financial reconciliation. This individual should be detail-oriented, organized, and able to support multiple active projects in a fast-paced environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Track and maintain project budgets, commitments, actual costs, forecasts, and cost-to-complete throughout the full project lifecycle.
Maintain accurate financial records for construction and capital projects in Procore and SAP, ensuring project data is current, complete, and aligned across systems.
Reconcile project financial information between project management systems, ERP records, contracts, invoices, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Monitor project financial performance and identify cost variances, risks, trends, and potential overruns early, escalating issues as appropriate.
Support project setup activities, including budget loading, cost coding, project structure alignment, and financial closeout requirements.
Administer and maintain Procore Financial Management modules, including budgets, commitments, direct costs, invoices, change events, and change orders.
Review subcontractor, vendor, and consultant invoices for accuracy, completeness, contract compliance, and proper supporting documentation prior to processing.
Support the management of commitment changes, budget transfers, and change order workflows to ensure timely and accurate cost reporting.
Process and monitor project-related financial activity in SAP, including purchase orders, invoices, project postings, and related cost transactions.
Ensure project costs are properly aligned to SAP structures, including the appropriate cost centers, internal orders, WBS elements, and capital or expense classifications.
Prepare routine and ad hoc financial reports, including budget status, committed costs, actuals, accruals, cash flow, forecast updates, and variance analysis.
Support month-end and year-end close activities by validating project financial data, preparing accruals, and reviewing open commitments and outstanding costs.
Partner with project managers, procurement, accounts payable, and finance teams to resolve invoice discrepancies, posting issues, and workflow delays.
Maintain organized, audit-ready project documentation and support internal control, compliance, and record retention requirements.
Contribute to continuous improvement of project accounting processes, reporting tools, financial controls, and cross-functional workflows.

Job Qualifications:
Typically requires a bachelors degree in Business Administration or a related discipline and three or more years of progressive professional project administration experience. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
3+ years of experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or capital project financial management.
Experience using Procore Financial Management modules and SAP required.
Strong knowledge of construction budgets, commitments, invoices, change orders, accruals, and forecasting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting commercial, industrial, manufacturing, or large capital construction projects.
Familiarity with project closeout, capital project reporting, and audit support.
Experience improving workflows and reporting across project and finance teams.
