YMCA of San Diego County Inclusion Leader Advanced - Expanded Learning Programs (Central San Diego) in San Diego, California
Responsibilities
- Assist assigned participants with homework assistance, enrichment and program activities, and meals to support inclusion into the program; support participants during meal and snack times to ensure needs are met.
- Maintains safety and well-being of all participants; implements de-escalation techniques and interventions for high-risk behaviors such as self-harming, eloping, and aggression.
- Guides participants by using a variety of techniques including non-verbal role modeling, emotional and physical support, and positive youth development.
- Provides dignified assistance with the use of restroom facilities, including diapering, and clothing changes, utilizing proper lifting and transfer techniques as required.
- Administers specialized health care support under the training and direction of a school or district nurse.
- Practices prompt-fading techniques to increase participant independence in program.
- Collaborates and communicates professionally and proactively with school staff and school administration, parents and guardians, and other Expanded Learning Programs staff members as needed.
- Participate in professional development and relevant training opportunities as appropriate for assigned position.
- Other duties as assigned.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position occasionally requires travel throughout San Diego County in the event of shift coverage

Qualifications
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience working directly with children ages 5-17 with special needs.
- A minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience providing medical, physical, or high-acuity behavioral support to children ages 5-17 with special needs within a K-12 school district environment.

``` - Knowledge of best practices for supporting individuals with diverse physical, cognitive, behavioral, and developmental needs (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, mobility impairment). - Excellent verbal communication skills when interacting with participants and tailors communication style to meet the diverse verbal and non-verbal needs of participants and partners. - Ability to quickly build trust, rapport, and supportive relationships with participants, parents/guardians, and colleagues. - Effective interpersonal skills and ability to maintain professional composure when managing high-stress behavioral incidents or medical emergencies - Proficiency in identifying behavioral triggers and implementing de-escalation techniques to ensure participant and staff safety. - Ability to lift, carry, and position participants using proper ergonomic techniques - Fine motor skills required to assist with medical equipment, feeding, diapering, and personal hygiene tasks with precision and dignity - Visual and auditory ability and physical capacity to quickly identify, assess, and respond immediately to elopement" (running) or signs of distress
PRE-HIRE CONTINGENCIES:
- Completion of Child Abuse Prevention training prior to working with program participants
- Licensing, state law and our funders require that applicants be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
- Negative TB assessment or test results obtained within the past 60 days, prior to working on a school site, and every four (4) years thereafter
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire, and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety and Health Institute
- High School Diploma/GED (international degrees must be accompanied by a NACES-accredited equivalency evaluation) AND successful completion of California Assessment of Paraprofessional Educators (CAPE)/ Instructional Aide (IA) exam prior to first ay of hire OR,
