Girl Scouts San Diego Director of Human Resources in San Diego, California

Girl Scouts San Diego is seeking a strategic yet hands-on Director of Human Resources. You’ll lead and shape long-term people and culture initiatives including recruitment, employee relations, performance management and day-to-day HR operations, and serve as a trusted advisor and member of the senior leadership team.

What You'll Do

As Director of Human Resources, you will:

  • Partner with senior leadership to develop and implement people strategies that support a high-performing, values-driven culture.

  • Lead and manage day-to-day HR operations across recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance.

  • Design and implement HR programs, policies and procedures aligned with organizational goals.

  • Drive talent strategies including workforce planning, recruitment, and retention.

  • Coach and advise managers at all levels to strengthen leadership capability and ensure equitable people practices.

  • Lead learning and development initiatives to build staff and leadership capacity.

  • Develop and implement employee engagement and retention strategies.

  • Oversee employee relations, providing expert guidance and ensuring fair, timely, and consistent resolution of workplace issues.

  • Lead performance management processes that promote accountability, feedback, and professional growth.

  • Oversee compensation, benefits, and HR systems to ensure competitiveness, equity, and operational efficiency.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.

  • Manage the HR budget and resources with a focus on impact and efficiency.

  • Lead and empower the HR team through effective management and professional development.

  • B achelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field (Master’s preferred)

  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification preferred

  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience (nonprofit experience preferred)

  • Demonstrated success developing and executing HR strategies aligned with organizational priorities

  • Strong expertise in employee relations, talent management, and organizational development

  • Ability to build trust and partner effectively with leaders and staff at all levels.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and consultative skills

  • High level of discretion and sound judgment with confidential matters

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with HRIS and ATS preferred

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed

  • Commitment to the mission and values of Girl Scouting, including adherence to the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

    Hiring Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000
