Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and skilled individuals to join our team as Blast, Paint & General Services Helpers. In this role, you will assist skilled painters in preparing wood and metal surfaces, removing contaminants, and masking areas not to be painted. You will help in painting parts, equipment, and structural surfaces both inside and outside ships and shipyard buildings. Your duties will also include mixing materials according to Product Data Sheets, inspecting prepped and painted areas, and performing touch-up work as needed.
Responsibilities
Assist skilled painters in cleaning and preparing surfaces for painting.
Remove dirt, grease, rust, scale, and other contaminants.
Mask and tape areas not requiring paint.
Paint parts, equipment, and structural surfaces on ships and shipyard buildings.
Mix materials in accordance with Product Data Sheets.
Inspect prepped and painted areas and perform touch-up work as needed.
Set up spray equipment, including pneumatic, conventional, and airless pumps.
Operate HVLP spray gun and five-gallon conventional spray pot.
Perform non-skid applications using phenolic roll.
Dismantle scaffolding of multiple types.
Clean tanks and perform general shipyard cleanup.
Inspect and sort scaffolding materials.
Operate high-reach equipment and power tools.
Move furniture and other equipment as needed.
Assist with tasks related to painting, blasting, carpentry, and waysman duties.
Essential Skills
Experience in painting and paint preparation.
Ability to handle hand tools effectively.
Knowledge of basic painting applications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous shipyard experience is preferred.
Must be flexible to work all shifts.
Must provide own tools.

Work Environment
Work will support the T-AO New Construction Program, involving projects for the U.S. Navy's fleet oiler program. The role includes working on vessels designed for fuel transfer to carrier strike groups at sea, featuring advanced designs for safety and efficiency. The job requires flexibility to work all shifts and involves tasks in various shipyard settings.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
