Description We are looking for an HR Specialist to join a growing environmental waste management organization in California. This contract opportunity combines human resources support with payroll administration for a multi-location workforce, offering a strong path for long-term growth. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing employee-focused HR work with accurate, compliant payroll processing in a fast-evolving business environment.
Responsibilities:
• Administer payroll activities for employees across multiple regions, helping ensure timely processing, accurate records, and adherence to applicable regulations.
• Review payroll data, prepare reports, and assist with audits and reconciliations in partnership with finance and internal stakeholders.
• Support the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding setup, orientation coordination, status changes, and separation procedures.
• Oversee benefits-related administration such as health plans, retirement programs, and leave tracking while responding to employee questions.
• Maintain organized and confidential employee records within HR and payroll systems, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
• Contribute to the transition toward a more internally managed HR function by helping refine workflows and improve day-to-day processes.
• Provide general HR support by addressing employee concerns, assisting with policy-related matters, and promoting consistent administrative practices. Requirements • At least 5 years of combined experience in human resources and payroll support.
• Background managing payroll for multi-state operations; exposure to international payroll is preferred.
• Familiarity with HRIS and payroll platforms, with Sage Intacct experience considered an advantage.
• Practical experience with onboarding, employee relations, and core HR administration.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
• Well-developed organizational and communication skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, though equivalent relevant experience will also be considered. TalentMatch®
