What you will be doing: Responsible for the operation of the student personnel functions which include the discipline and behavioral adjustment system and management of significant incidents, in compliance with government and management directives.

Essential functions:

  1. Provide overall supervision for student personnel through effective planning, staff scheduling and student participation in establishment of rules.

  2. Assist in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures affecting student discipline, and coordinate with other departments for compliance with overall center objectives.

  3. Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Prepare related reports.

  4. Determine and administer disciplinary action for students who have violated rules and regulations; counsel students when their behavior on or off-center is not appropriate.

  5. Coordinate and monitor review board and actions.

  6. Coordinate student discipline with other center staff and maintain documentation of records and reports on activities.

  7. Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.

  8. Conduct orientation and training on disciplinary system for staff and students; assist in the preparation and updating of disciplinary aspects of the student handbook.

  9. Coordinate preparation of significant incident reports for review by center director.

  10. Provide training to students and staff to ensure understanding of the Zero Tolerance Policy and behavior management system according to policies established by Department of Labor and Los Angeles Job Corps Center in the absence of and/or at the direction of the center standards manager (CSM).

  11. Handles behavioral disciplinary issues for resident and non-resident students as assigned by the CSM.

  12. Issues appropriate sanctions and refers positive incident reports to proper staff for handling and recognition at the direction of the CSM.

  13. Administration of student incentive plan, prepares and ensures accuracy of monthly and quarterly summary of center standards issued incentive awards.

  14. Notifies students of fact-finding board date, time, and location, as well as rights.

  15. Ensures timely and accurate submission of appeal files to regional office.

  16. Places students on administrative leave without benefits, when appropriate.

  17. Prepares purchase requests/office supplies as needed for center standards.

  18. Prepares and submits summary of fines and restitutions.

  19. Responsible for the disposition of positive incidents and infractions referred by the fact-finding boards.

  20. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.

  21. Participate in student employability programs and activities.

  22. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.

  23. Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.

  24. Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education & experience:

  • Associate's degree and one year related experience required. Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communications skills and computer proficiency required. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
