What you will be doing: Directly manages the senior residential advisors, residential advisors, day residential advisors, substitute residential advisors, on-center leave coordinator, and pathways coach. Responsible for the management of the residential living program, which includes a safe and homelike atmosphere, dormitory management and maintenance, dorm culture, student safety and security, student dorm government and peer court systems in compliance with government and management directives.

Essential functions:

Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and programmatic activities of the department.

  1. Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance and recommend and implement departmental changes as approved by the director, career success and coordinated with the human resources prior to implementation.

  2. Assist the director of social development in the preparation of the departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures. Review and recommend changes to budget authorizations.

  3. Assist in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures affecting residential living.

  4. Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Prepare related reports.

  5. Establish, implement and supervise control procedures to maximize student living standard; coordinate student participation.

  6. Implement and maintain collaborative communication with counseling services staff, other center staff, and outside community resources to facilitate student progress and performance.

  7. Schedule group sessions and ensure adherence to program requirements/record keeping.

  8. Manage student dorm government and coordinate student clothing trips.

  9. Develop and monitor shift schedules for 24-hour, 7 day/week dormitory coverage; control documentation and maintenance of records.

  10. Inspect dormitory areas as appropriate; ensure facility maintenance is done when needed.

  11. Provide support and guidance to staff in dealing with student behavior and resolving individual or group issues.

  12. Monitor and assist with the student accountability system as it relates to residential living, including daily attendance reported to the student records office.

  13. Conduct residential living activities which promote improved center performance statistics, particularly retention factors.

  14. Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.

  15. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.

  16. Participate in student employability programs and activities.

  17. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.

  18. Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.

  19. Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.

  20. Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education & experience:

  • Associate’s degree, two years experience working with youth and two years supervisory experience. Excellent written and verbal communications skills and computer proficiency required. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
