What you will be doing: Responsible for performing center maintenance and repair in one of the following specialized crafts: heating, ventilation and air conditioning, electrical, and/or plumbing and in compliance with government and management directives.

Essential functions:

  1. Order materials required to perform work; prepare the required paperwork to reflect cost, use of materials and other data for accounting purposes.

  2. Provide guidance and work assignments for other maintenance staff in one of the following specialized crafts: heating, ventilation and air conditioning, electrical, and/or plumbing.

  3. Perform maintenance and repair of structures, electrical systems, heating, plumbing, air conditioning and drainage systems.

  4. Repair or replace faulty or damaged light fixtures, outlets, fuses as directed.

  5. Perform minor construction and repair of structural woodwork.

  6. Maintain and preserve all flooring and/or covering by scrubbing, stripping, waxing, buffing and sweeping.

  7. Install window shades or coverings, security locks, etc.

  8. Perform repair or replacement of plumbing, fixtures, washers, seals, etc.

  9. Help prepare surfaces for finishing, i.e. painting as directed.

  10. Perform roads and grounds maintenance on property.

  11. Perform preventive maintenance checks of building and equipment.

  12. Obtain and assist bidders for center projects.

  13. Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.

  14. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.

  15. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.

  16. Promote the development of career success standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.

  17. Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education & experience:

  • High school education or equivalent and three years related craft experience at the journey worker level. Must demonstrate maintenance skills and have a certification or degree (HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing). Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
