PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking an experienced Special Access Aircraft General Mechanic to support the maintenance, modification, and repair of aircraft operated under special access and controlled programs in San Antonio, TX. This role requires advanced aircraft systems knowledge, strict compliance with technical data, and adherence to enhanced security, safety, and quality standards.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled aircraft mechanic with depot-level or heavy maintenance experience who thrives in a secure, mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform flight control installation, removal, and rigging
Service and maintain landing gear and aircraft systems
Conduct essential component change-outs (e.g., servo pumps, filters, engine components)
Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specifications, and retrofit requirements
Perform structural modification and repair per approved documentation
Access aircraft data via computer systems and submit parts and discrepancy requests
Diagnose and correct malfunctions occurring in assembly or maintenance processes
Use precision measuring instruments, gauges, and tools to ensure quality conformance
Maintain required certifications, licenses, and permits
Prioritize workload to meet assigned project schedules
Apply Hazardous Energy and Lockout/Tagout procedures to maintain a safe work environment
Use all equipment in compliance with established safety and operating procedures
Assist other disciplines (Avionics, Structures, Electrics) to meet cost and schedule objectives
Successfully pass required assessments during the training cycle
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
4+ years of depot-level or heavy general aircraft maintenance experience
4+ years of experience working aircraft interior and exterior systems , including:
Hydraulics
Flight controls
Landing gear
Fuel systems
Engine components
Monuments/interior systems
4+ years of experience interpreting schematics, specifications, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures
Experience accessing and utilizing aircraft data via computer systems
Ability to work flexible schedules, including alternate shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required by mission needs
This position will require the ability to obtain customer approval for access. Dual citizenship or prior citizenship of any other country may preclude ability to obtain access. A 3rd party background check relating to personal and business finances, residences, employment history, past drug use, prior military service, and criminal behavior will be conducted.
Ability to Obtain and Maintain Secret Clearance
Successful completion of training is a contingency for this assignment – OJT or formal classroom training
Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement of this request.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing aircraft engine runs and engine borescope inspections
Experience operating aircraft ground support equipment, including:
Aircraft tug/tow vehicles
Forklifts
Mobile cranes
Electric-powered elevating equipment
Experience with REDARS and/or Gold-ESP systems
Physical Requirements
Ability to:
Ascend and descend vertical ladders
Work in confined spaces
Lift approximately 35 lbs independently (team lifts required for items over 50 lbs)
Frequent standing, walking, reaching overhead, balancing, and climbing
Occasional crawling, kneeling, squatting, bending, and extended positioning
Exposure to noise and elevated work platforms
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for eyes, ears, hands, arms, and face
Pass visual acuity and color perception tests
Ability to read, write, and comprehend English
Ability to handle, use, and dispose of hazardous materials safely
Maintain required training certifications
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED
Typically 1+ years of related experience , or an equivalent combination of education and experience
