TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION K082 Equipment Mechanic I/II in San Angelo, Texas
Performs repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties for Equipment Mechanic I Include:Adjusts brakes and replaces brake system parts to include air brake and anti-locking systems.Checks lighting and wiring mechanisms to ensure proper functioning of headlights, spotlights, tail lights and parkinglights.Completes repair order paperwork and accurately enters data into fleet information management system.Maintains and repairs heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance of highways/bridges.Overhauls motors and transmissions.Performs acetylene and electric arc welding repairs.Performs emergency spot repairs.Performs preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment; as required moves items related tothese activities.Prepares vehicles for use by checking for required safety features such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers and mobileradios.Repairs and adjusts steering assemblies.Repairs vehicle air conditioning systems. Troubleshoots, tests and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignitions and fuel injection systems.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Essential Duties for Equipment Mechanic II Include those listed above and:Travels and performs work in other shops throughout the state as required.
