Position Title: Sustainable Energy/Eco Design Expert

Reports To: Innovation Sr. Director

Local Position Summary

Reporting to the R&D Eco Design Director, the Lead Engineer Energy will focus on integrating energy-efficient designs, sustainable technologies, and environmental impact reduction into the development of diagnostic instruments and systems. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in energy systems, materials science, and product lifecycle optimization to support innovation.

Local Position Duties

  • Provide Internal Expertise on Energy Topics Act as the internal reference on energy-related topics, supporting product design, development and lifecycle energy & environmental impact assessments. Work closely with R&D, engineering, procurement and system architecture teams to identify, assess, and implement solutions that reduce the energy consumption of IVD systems across their lifecycle. Monitor test methods, technologies, and best practices for improving instrument energy performance. Contribute to the EcoDesign Roadmap by defining and deploying energy optimization strategies.

  • Drive Innovation Projects Lead and manage pilot projects, proof-of-concept studies to validate new energy technologies or approaches, develop prototypes for internal review and assessment. Provide technical direction and guidance on energy-related concept design. Identify relevant partnerships to accelerate and optimize material-related innovation projects.

  • Supervise and Coordinate Scientific Work Provide leadership in scientific programs, including guidance of experimental work. Guide and supervise scientists, engineers, or students, while supporting knowledge development and transfer within the team. Perform work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Environmental Science.

  • Experience: 10 years of professional related experience in energy systems, energy efficiency, or sustainable product development, preferably in medical devices or diagnostics.

  • Preferred: Master’s or PhD in Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in energy optimization of complex systems or equipment.

  • Experience in R&D project management, including feasibility studies, proof-of-concept activities, and pilot projects.

  • Experience in instrument design and development.

  • Knowledge of sustainable design principles and environmental impact assessment in product development.

Supervisory Responsibilities (Summary)

No direct or indirect supervision responsibilities. Operates with little-to-no supervisory review.

Supplemental Data (Summary)

Collaborates across R&D, engineering, and procurement teams to integrate sustainability and energy efficiency principles into product development. Supports continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across franchises.

Working Conditions (Summary)

Typical office setting. Travel required: 10% (5% domestic, 5% international).

The estimated salary range for this role is between $165,000-$198,000. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux’s bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
