Amentum Principal Engineer, Radiation Hardened Systems in Salt Lake City, Utah

We are hiring a Principal Engineer for Radiation Hardened Systems to support nuclear modernization efforts across Amentum’s Department of War programs.
As a Principal Engineer for Radiation Hardened Systems, you will serve as a Subject Matter Expert on radiation effects collaborating with Amentum leadership and Government customers to advise on policy development, strategic planning, and implementation. This role will be responsible for bridging technical depth with strategic program goals, operating as a high-level expert who guides architectural decisions, mentors staff, and solves complex, high-risk problems. This individual will use their experience to steer technical vision, improve engineering processes, and align projects with long-term objectives across multiple programs. In this role the candidate will be resolving high-stakes issues, program bottlenecks, scaling challenges, perform risk assessments, foster collaboration among stakeholders, ensure program goals are achievable, and refine requirements.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Interface with numerous stakeholders across the Amentum and Government teams to understand specific program needs and requirements
Analyze the impact of radiation environments on system performance and support system level design trades
Design harden and verify the performance of systems across multiple radiation effects
Work with interdisciplinary teams to ensure radiation hardened is maintained throughout the product lifecycle
Provide guidance on critical decision-making and complex problem solving
Develop and/or review program reports, technical papers, white papers, and roadmaps
Demonstrate ability to recognize nuances and resolve contradictions and inconsistencies in information
Support various Amentum company initiatives
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and at least twenty (20) years of job-related experience
Expertise in materials and device radiation interactions
Extensive experience in radiation testing, requirements development, and results analysis
Strategic planning expertise across multiple programs and organizations
Experience developing technical white papers and proposals
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to work effectively with a variety of team members
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret Clearance. Please note US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
