Job Summary
The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the University Of Utah School Of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Physician Assistant to provide primary GI care and treatment for pediatric patients with general gastrointestinal disorders.
Clinical activities are carried out at primarily at Primary Children’s Hospital Outpatient Services Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, but may also include seeing patients at Primary Children’s Hospital Miller Campus outpatient clinics in Lehi, UT, or Layton Hospital outpatient clinics in Layton, UT. Clinics may include a combination of face to face and virtual visit platforms. The provider will have between 6 and 7 half day clinics per week. This role will also include taking first call on our Pediatric GI inpatient service for 6-12 weeks per year, which runs Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.
Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient’s condition.
Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient’s clinical problems and health care needs.
Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
Participates in quality improvement activities.
Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance.
Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.
Assists the other Advanced Practice Providers review our referral pool, and makes recommendations for which patients should be part of our Fast Track program to expedite care.

Often: Infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).

- This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners or behavioral health patients.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah.
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
- Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

Preferences
Previous experience in pediatrics strongly preferred, pediatric gastroenterology and/or nutrition preferred. Previous experience in outpatient family practice or pediatric clinic preferred.
