BARR ENGINEERING Environmental Consultant - Senior Level - Mining Focus (Hybr in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The role - what you'll do

Barr isseekinga highly experienced senior environmental consultant with a strong mining focus to work with clients toidentify, scope, and manage integrated environmental permitting and engineering projects across the full life cycle, from greenfield development through closure. This role involves coordinating multidisciplinary teams across multiple offices to produce high-quality technical documents for regulatory review.

 

The position is client-facing and relationship-driven, requiring frequent interaction with federal, state, and local regulators; non-governmental organizations; resource managers; industry representatives; technical experts; and interested stakeholders. A successful candidate is intrinsically motivated, consultative in style, flexible, and committed to delivering successful projects that strengthen long-term client relationships and support future business opportunities.

 

Your impact - key responsibilities

Permitting and compliance: assisting clients with permitting, environmental regulatory compliance, and related technical assignments.

*

Client service: collaborating with clients to identify and address environmental issues, including regulatory applicability determinations, preparing compliance plans and reports, developing permitting applications, and performing technical and economic feasibility studies.

*

Client management: sustain and grow relationships with existing mining clients through successful project execution and consultative engagement.

*

Team leadership: leading and managing highly collaborative project teams and developing internal team members.

*

Agency engagement: participating in meetings and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel.

*

Business development: engaging in business development activities, including the development of proposals, scopes of work, and appropriate budgets.

 

About the opportunity

*

Hybrid: a hybrid arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office; a remote arrangement refers to working primarily from a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Reno, Nevada, office or Salt Lake City, Utah, office.

*

Travel expectation: up to 25% of the time, may vary depending on client needs.

*

Work environment: projects mayrequiretime on site at industrial and mining facilities. Some locations include rough terrain, limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of construction or industrial sites. Work may involve wastedisposalsites or locations requiring hazardous materials cleanup. As needed, safety training will be provided, and an OSHA-mandated physical exam (HAZWOPER) or MSHA training may berequired. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

About you - required core competencies

*

Education: bachelor's degree in mining, civil, or environmental engineering, geology, or a related discipline.

*

Experience:

*

15 or more years of experiencedirectly relatedto the mining industry, including environmental review, permitting, and reclamation.

*

Recent environmental consulting experience.

*

Relevant skills:

*

Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and direct multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven consulting environment.
