GREATER SALT LAKE MUNICIPAL SERVICES DISTRICT Civil Engineer Intern in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Part-Time, Temporary, Non-Benefit

JOB SUMMARY

The Engineering Intern assists engineers and project managers in addressing the civil engineering needs of the Greater Salt Lake Municipal Services District. Among other things, the intern would assist in the design and review of construction documents, review permit applications, and become familiar with design plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Hours are flexible for demanding class schedules; up to 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a Civil Engineering Student (declared major) with 2+ years of schooling at an accredited university.

Special Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 and have possess a valid and unencumbered Utah driver license for at least 12 months. Maintaining a driver's license is a condition of employment for this position.
  • Due to the nature of this position, the final candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and reference checks.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. The MSD is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of any employment Visa.
Essential Functions:
  • Assist engineers and project managers in the engineering design of road, sidewalk, and/or drainage projects.
  • Review permit requests, review traffic engineering requests, assist with development reviews, conduct site visits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Desired Skills:
  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft apps (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Make basic technical computations and cost estimates.
  • Develop and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
Work Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Moderate physical activity. Walking through construction and development projects. Sitting at workstations for prolonged periods.
