Job Summary

Associate Director reports to the Director of Stadium, Arena & Campus Event Services, who reports to the Executive Director for Auxiliary Services. The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership, direction, management, and vision for events held at Rice-Eccles Stadium and the Jon M. Huntsman Center. This includes directly overseeing daily operations for Client Services and Venue Operations. This position will also coordinate event needs and operations with parking, police, security and contracted guest services. This position will also work with our facilities management campus group for work orders and the liason for any stadium or arena projects.

Responsibilities

  1. Manage, Supervise, Coordinate and Provide Vision for the Department and Staff

  2. Event and Venue Management – Oversee and Manage Operations

  3. Implement Campus Event Contracts with Current and Potential Clients.

  4. Meeting Banquets and Receptions – Supervise Staff as they Oversee, Manage Large and Small Events in Stadium Tower and the Jon H. Huntsman Center.

  5. Review, update and train SACES staff on various safety-related policies and procedures.

  6. Participate in the development and interpretation of department policies to ensure compliance with the University’s policies and regulatory requirements.

  7. Oversee Client Services and Venue Operations staff management including recruitment, performance evaluations and retention of staff.

  8. Serve as part of the SACES management team.

  9. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

Bachelor’s degree in event or operations management, business, or a related field.

7 years of professional experience in construction management, project delivery or business with higher education organizations. (or Masters Degree plus 5 years of directly related work experience)

Strong collaboration skills with experience working across multiple departments or business units.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of organization and attention to detail.

A proactive, self-motivated work style and interest in representing the University in community settings
