University of Utah Health Associate Director, IT Infrastructure and Operations in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah
Overview
This position provides leadership and management for the Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure and Operations service line within University of Utah Health Hospitals and Clinics.
This role is accountable for oversight regarding the design, implementation, and day-to-day operations of IT infrastructure technologies, specifically setting the direction for Client Engineering vision and strategy.
The Associate Director ensures seamless communication between IT Operations and the broader organization, taking all necessary steps to resolve complex issues and translate organizational needs into cost-effective, leading-edge technology solutions.
As the strategic and operational IT service provider for University of Utah Health, ITS is responsible for implementing and supporting mission critical IT applications, technology and services.
These include the electronic medical record, revenue cycle applications, several hundred 'boutique' health care applications, the Enterprise Data Warehouse (eDW), patient portal, telemedicine, biomedical engineering and Health Information.
Applications training and critical services such as infrastructure, help desk, data security and many other functions are provided, much of which is supported in collaboration with University Systems Services (USS).
By building teams committed to operational excellence, this role provides agile IT infrastructure resources—including client deployment, network, and security standards—to help the organization keep pace with the changing healthcare landscape.

Practical knowledge of how business continuity, technical debt, security, and privacy concerns influence IT infrastructure decisions and work.
Practical knowledge of IT Service Management and Enterprise Architecture processes and practices
Qualifications
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, or related area, or equivalency.
Six years of progressively more responsible management and strategic planning experience.
Qualifications (Preferred)
Preferred
Master's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related area.
ITIL or related IT Service Management certification.
Cloud (GCP, AWS or Azure) certification
Any standard IT certificationDemonstrated experience leading functional infrastructure teams with a focus on enterprise-scale delivery.
Demonstrated experience in leading teams who are both on-site and in remote locations.
Advanced knowledge of Client Engineering services, including:
Virtualization & Tools: Expertise in managing VMware, Xen Server, and Citrix environments.
Mobile & Architecture: Deep understanding of Mobile Device Management (MDM), architecture, and deployment strategies.
Full Lifecycle Management: Proven success managing multiple technologies and services through the entire lifecycle—from initial concept and design through implementation, QA, and maintenance.
Practical knowledge of how technical debt, security, and privacy concerns influence infrastructure design and client deployment.
