Job Title: Quality Control Technician

Job Description

The Quality Control Technician works closely with the manufacturing floor to collect random samples from in-process and finished production batches and perform a wide range of complex physical and chemical tests. Using sophisticated and precise laboratory instruments, this role ensures that raw materials and finished products meet established quality specifications and customer requirements, while maintaining accurate, traceable records and supporting continuous improvement in a manufacturing and lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and collect random samples from production batches and lots on the manufacturing floor.

  • Perform a wide variety of complex tests on in-process and finished product batches to measure physical and chemical characteristics, including viscosity, weight per unit of measure, flow, gloss, and color characteristics against standards.

  • Use highly sophisticated and precise testing instruments and devices in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.

  • Conduct routine analysis of in-process and finished product batches to maintain consistent product quality.

  • Perform tests to ensure raw materials and production batches comply with internal specifications and customer requirements.

  • Provide clear adjustment recommendations to production based on test results and observations.

  • Record and report all observations and test results accurately in the appropriate quality control cards, files, or systems, ensuring data is complete and traceable.

  • Maintain, calibrate, and verify laboratory test equipment, tools, and QC standards to ensure reliable test results.

  • Maintain accurate and traceable QC records, charts, and lab work statistical data, and issue daily and monthly QC reports.

  • Issue Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and color panels for customers as required.

  • Communicate customer special requirements clearly among Sales, Laboratory, Production, and other relevant functions to ensure alignment with specifications and procedures.

  • Issue on-hold requests for nonconforming materials or batches and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.

  • Verify customer complaints, conduct investigations, and respond with documented investigation results.

  • Implement corrective and preventive actions as well as continual improvement actions related to quality control processes.

  • Conduct internal training on quality control procedures and evaluate position-specific training effectiveness.

  • Attend assigned training courses actively to stay current with procedures, safety standards, and quality requirements.

  • Hold safety huddles and meetings to reinforce safety practices and awareness.

  • Understand and comply with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, Life Saving Rules, waste management systems, Product Stewardship procedures, distribution and road safety requirements, incident reporting, product SDS (MSDS), and proper PPE requirements related to the HMIS system.

  • Maintain valid QC standards and retains in an organized and traceable manner.

  • Perform general cleanup, maintain good housekeeping, and support consolidation and organization of the laboratory and related areas.

  • Complete other quality-related tasks and assignments as directed by the supervisor or manager.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in quality control within a manufacturing or laboratory environment.

  • Hands-on experience performing physical and chemical tests such as viscosity, weight per unit of measure, flow, gloss, and color comparison against standards.

  • Ability to use sophisticated and precise laboratory testing instruments and devices.

  • Strong understanding of quality testing and troubleshooting methods in a production setting.

  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

  • Ability to follow established safety rules, procedures, and company Code of Conduct with integrity.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording and reporting test results.

  • Ability to maintain and calibrate laboratory test equipment and tools.

  • Effective communication skills to relay test results, customer requirements, and adjustment recommendations to cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to understand and comply with HSE standards, waste management systems, Product Stewardship procedures, distribution and road safety requirements, incident reporting, SDS (MSDS), and PPE requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience or coursework in chemistry, quality control, or a related technical field.

  • Experience working in both manufacturing and laboratory environments.

  • Familiarity with maintaining QC records, charts, and statistical data and generating daily or monthly reports.

  • Experience issuing Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and preparing color panels for customers.

  • Experience investigating customer complaints and documenting root cause and corrective actions.

  • Ability to conduct internal training and evaluate training effectiveness for quality control procedures.

  • Strong organizational skills for consolidation and organization of lab and related areas.

  • Commitment to continual improvement in quality and safety practices.

Work Environment

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Salem, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $22.00/hr.
