About the Job
The Safety Specialist plays a critical role in advancing MLC’s safety culture by supporting regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives, with exposure to mining and manufacturing environments.
Support the execution and continuous improvement of MLC’s safety and health programs and metrics
Ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and company safety standards
Partner with employees and leadership to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace risks
Conduct safety inspections, investigations, and corrective action follow‑up for plants, mines, and contractors
Coordinate and participate in MSHA regulatory inspections and related follow‑up
Develop, update, and train on safety standards and procedures
Deliver OSHA/MSHA training and support learning teams to reduce incident recurrence
Maintain safety data, reporting, incentive programs, and Industrial Hygiene sampling (noise, dust, DPM, welding fumes)
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related field OR equivalent safety experience
Experience: Previous MSHA and/or OSHA‑regulated manufacturing or industrial environments
Skills: Attention to Detail. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with all organizational levels. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Willingness to respond to emergencies, including off‑shift and weekend support when needed
Preferred Qualifications
MSHA Training Instructor Certification (IS, IU)
Underground mining experience
Experience conducting Industrial Hygiene sampling and health monitoring
Familiarity with web‑based safety systems (e.g., Dakota or similar platforms)
Strong attention to detail and data management skills
