    About the Job

    Supervises bulk barge, railcar and truck loading. Coordinates daily work assignments for contracted employees. Responsible for performance and business results in all bulk loading areas. Communicates railcar barge and truck loading information directly to Shipping Manager, Plant Managers and Supervisors, Production Manager, and Supply Chain Staff. Ensures all locomotives, shuttle wagons, active railcar fleet, railroad tracks and infrastructure, rail scales, and truck scales are well maintained and reliable. Ensures that contractors and employees meet performance expectations.

  • Ensure that work is completed safely and that all systems are compliant with all laws, regulations, rules, and procedures.

  • Assist the loading teams in performance of daily work responsibilities.

  • Works directly with Shipping Manager and Plant Manager on customer priority for product demand and availability of rail equipment. Manage the bad order repair process in RCM and creating and forwarding customer invoices.

  • Inspect all truck inspection platforms for defects and follow up with repairs needed.

  • Perform periodic inspection of railroad tracks. Report conditions and any defects to Shipping Manager.

  • Perform daily audits to ensure railcars and trucks are leaving MLC clean with appropriate seals.

  • Accountable for ensuring lime crews have been fully Rail Safety Trained, both new miner class and annual refresher training.

  • Communicate all issues that impact customer shipments with all MLC departments as necessary.

  • Report any rail car defects, (Bad Orders), to Shipping Dept. Assist mobile repair crews by coordinating the proper placement of the railcars on tracks that can be accessed easily to make repairs.

  • Provide daily pre-shift discussion items that cover efficient, and safe rail/truck loading. Communicate product changes, requirements, and demand to the lime loading crews.

  • Perform weekly inspections of all truck and rail load outs and report any issues to the plant managers. Log loadout inspection results in an Excel spreadsheet.

  • Daily verification of rail cars delivered to Thomure – ensuring they match billing for the barge schedule.

  • Overseeing the barge unloading process and managing loading contractor. When a barge is finished loading, dump cars in RCM, enter loaded drafts, release cars with the Union Pacific.

  • Work with Shipping Manager to meet budget targets and identify waste.

  • Work closely with 3rd Party Switching Contractor, Switching group, Track Repair Group, and Railcar Repair Group to maintain a good working relationship.

  • Loading Team Supervisor performs the duties of RCM Administrator (Security user, Training) and continuous updates with the Rail Car Management System.

  • Perform Task Safety Observations (Audits). Must meet set targets outlined by Shipping Manager and Supply Chain Director. Information must be logged and saved for Safety Department use.

  • Employees are expected to perform other responsibilities as needed – including call out duties as needed or required by Shipping Manager.

    Required Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum High School Diploma required.

  • Experience: Minimum three years background supervising a unionized workforce required.

  • Knowledge: Knowledge or background in rail switching operations. Inspect rail and components associated with rail infrastructure. Determine conditions of infrastructure. General knowledge of office equipment. Operate scanners, fax machine, phone, keyboard, and computer.

  • Skills: Strong working knowledge of Outlook, Excel, and Word. Ability to quickly learn other computer software programs.

  • Abilities: Loading Supervisors are required to read, follow, and direct using basic procedures and guidelines. Supervisors are required to communicate effectively via e-mail, and could be expected to assist in writing workplace standards or procedures. In addition, supervisors should have the ability to perform basic math for calculating drafts for barge loading, and/or adding rail track feet for repairs. Must have the ability to communicate effectively. Listening skills are essential, as well as verbal and written communication.
