The Division of Social Sciences at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, invites applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-eligible faculty position as a Professor of Practice in Legal Studies. Candidates should have a JD, at least three years of experience practicing law, and prior experience teaching undergraduate, graduate, or law students. All legal specialties and practice areas will be considered, although preferred consideration may be given to individuals with experience in housing law, family law, or experience with and understanding of legal technology tools and the legal industry’s experience with Artificial Intelligence tools.
The successful candidate will teach 7 courses per academic year within the undergraduate and graduate Legal Studies programs, including the Graduate Paralegal Certificate and the Master in the Study of Law. Courses are in person, hybrid, and online in synchronous and asynchronous modalities. The anticipated start date is August 2026.
Required Qualifications:
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
At least 3 years of experience practicing law (in any jurisdiction)
Experience working as a paralegal or supervising paralegals in a team environment
Teaching experience in a paralegal, legal studies, or law school setting
Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching in a variety of modalities and/or developing online courses in Canvas
Interest in emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence
Background, expertise, or interest in family or housing law or pro bono legal services

SALARY RANGE: $73,000– $77,000
