Job Title: Machine Assembler

Job Description

The Machine Assembler builds custom machines by accurately reading and interpreting technical documentation, positioning and assembling components, and ensuring that completed machines operate correctly and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, assembly drawings, blueprints, and schematics to assemble custom machinery.

  • Assemble, install, and align mechanical and electrical components and sub-assemblies according to specifications.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, cranes, and specialized equipment to assemble machines safely and efficiently.

  • Fabricate parts as needed using machine shop equipment such as mills, lathes, and saws.

  • Perform mechanical and basic electrical assembly, including wiring and connections, to complete machine builds.

  • Troubleshoot assembly issues and machine performance problems, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.

  • Consult with engineering to resolve assembly problems, clarify specifications, and improve build processes.

  • Work with welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems as needed to complete custom builds.

  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move parts and assemblies safely within the shop.

  • Follow safety procedures and use provided personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in the facility.

Essential Skills

  • Proven custom machine building experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings, blueprints, and schematics.

  • Proficiency with hand tools and power tools for mechanical assembly.

  • Experience with electrical assembly and wiring in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in general mechanic work.

  • Troubleshooting skills for resolving mechanical and assembly issues.

  • Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.

  • Familiarity with welding, hydraulics, and pneumatics in a machine-building context.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and shop personnel to resolve issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree is a nice-to-have qualification.

  • Experience with welding, hydraulics, mechanic work, and forklift operation is preferred.

  • Comfort working with electrical systems, wiring, and schematics.

  • Ability to use mills, lathes, and saws for part fabrication.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to building high-quality custom machinery.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, well-lit, and organized facility with a close-knit team of around 25 employees across the shop and office. The environment is shop-based, working with hand tools, power tools, cranes, and specialized assembly and machine shop equipment such as mills, lathes, and saws. Typical hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and expected to be used, supporting a safe and professional work setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
