Job Duties

Position: Food Market Intake Worker

Salary: $20/hour or $21/hour if bilingual

Schedule: Monday – Friday with occasional evenings and weekends

Location: In person, St. Paul

POSITION SUMMARY

Neighborhood House is seeking a full-time Food Market Intake Worker to support, strengthen our Food Support programming. In this role, you will be a first point of contact for families who come to the food market, creating a welcoming space for families who shop with us. You will conduct participant interviews and assessments to learn about their needs, gather data to learn how best to serve each family, offer referrals to community resources when needed, and support with shopping. In addition to direct service, this position works collaboratively with other food support team members and volunteers to ensure efficient food shelf operations including stocking shelves and helping with food donations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Service:

• Provide culturally responsive services aligned with Neighborhood House standards for accessibility, inclusion, and radical hospitality, including:

• Conduct participant intake for new and renewing households accessing food support services

• Provide information about Neighborhood House wrap-around services and programs, and connect participants to internal and community resources as appropriate

• Respond to participant inquiries about food access and related services by phone, email, in person, or through referral systems

• Participate and support food distribution programs, including Fresh Produce Distributions, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), and other special events hosted by Neighborhood House.

Indirect Service:

• Collaborating with other staff on special projects such as school supply drives, food drives, and Basic Needs events

• Ensure safe food handling procedures and proper maintenance of equipment and appliances to maintain compliance with license requirements

• Assist with receiving, unloading, and stocking deliveries daily

Data and Evaluation:

• Ensure timely and accurate data entry in Client Track

• Support regular data review and cleanup to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with organizational requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED

• Strong commitment to serving families facing food insecurity and a sensitivity to the stress that may appear for families using the food support program

• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, social, racial, and cultural backgrounds

• Proficient interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English

• Must be able to lift items up to 50 pounds

• Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends as required

• Must have a driver’s license, a clean driving record, and ability to drive agency vehicles

• Must be able to pass a criminal background check

Desired Qualifications

· Bilingual or multilingual skills relevant to the communities served.

• Experience providing social services in a non-profit or other related customer service field

WORK LOCATION

This in-person role is based in St. Paul, MN. This position is primarily based in the food market setting with frequent interaction at various Neighborhood House sites and occasional off-site meetings or events. Local travel between locations is required; reliable transportation is necessary (mileage reimbursement available).
