Opportunity Overview
Our Information Systems organization is responsible for the reliability, performance, and security of the firm's infrastructure and core platforms. As a Senior Systems Administrator , you'll design, implement, and support enterprise infrastructure across compute, operating systems, storage, virtualization, identity, and core services. You'll partner with engineering, solutions architects, external vendors, and security teams to deliver resilient, scalable solutions that power our business.
What You'll Do
Own availability & performance: Ensure uptime and reliability of Windows/Linux server platforms, virtualization, storage, and core services (e.g., DNS, DHCP, NTP, authentication/authorization).
Design & implement solutions: Independently design, assemble, configure, install, and tune complex infrastructure components that meet business and security requirements.
Vendor & partner coordination: Manage relationships with multiple external vendors to ensure successful delivery of production releases, patches, firmware updates, and support engagements. Coordinate schedules, validate deliverables, review technical plans, and ensure vendor work aligns with internal standards, change management processes, and reliability expectations.
Incident leadership: Lead complex incident response and problem management; perform deep diagnostics using logs/metrics/traces; drive to root cause and long‑term fixes.
Automation & standardization: Develop scripts and automations (e.g., PowerShell, Bash/Python) and use configuration management to reduce toil and drift.
Lifecycle & hygiene: Own patching, vulnerability remediation, capacity planning, performance tuning, backup/restore validation, and disaster recovery exercises.
Project delivery: Translate requirements into designs and implementation plans; develop estimates, test plans, deployment plans, runbooks, and documentation; follow the firm's project life cycle.
Security by design: Implement IAM/least privilege, certificate and secrets management, hardening baselines, and audit/compliance controls.
Mentor & uplift: Provide guidance and training to peers and less experienced administrators; champion best practices and knowledge sharing.
24×7 readiness: Participate in an on‑call rotation; proactively monitor and respond to alerts and system messages.
What projects/work you'll have an immediate impact on
Platform upgrades & migrations: Modernizing server OS versions and hypervisor platforms; refreshing storage/NAS; coordinating data replications and cutovers.
Service resilience & DR: Improving high availability, backup/restore processes, and disaster recovery testing for critical applications.
Vulnerability & patch programs: Reducing risk through coordinated patching of Windows/Linux/VMs and middleware across environments.
Observability uplift: Expanding monitoring, logging, and alerting to speed detection, diagnosis, and MTTR.
Automation initiatives: Introducing/improving configuration management and provisioning pipelines to standardize builds and reduce manual work.

What Experience You Need (Required)
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field, or relevant experience.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in system administration or storage administration.
Core expertise:
Deep understanding of hardware , operating systems (Windows Server, Linux), storage/replication , and networking fundamentals (LAN/WAN, DNS, TCP/IP).
Ability to develop complex technical requirements , create multiple design options , and implement high‑quality solutions within target dates.
Proven capability to debug and correct complex infrastructure problems using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
Experience creating requirements, test plans, runbooks, and status reports ; strong written and verbal communication with developers, vendors, leaders, and business partners.
Track record of project estimation , walkthroughs/design reviews , and adherence to the project life cycle .
Willingness to provide all levels of support for assigned systems, including participation in a 24×7 on‑call rotation and monitoring logs/messages.

- Schedule: Full‑time; on‑call rotation required.
Location: Saint Louis
Current INTERNAL home-based associates: While this role is posted as hybrid, if selected and accepted, you may retain your home-based status . Edward Jones intends in good faith to continue offering the role as home-based, though future business or regulatory needs may require on-site work.
*Candidates that live within a commutable distance from our St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office four days per week effective June 1, 2026. Before June 1, 2026, candidates that live within a commutable distance from our St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office three days per week, with preference for Tuesday through Thursday.*
