Job Description Summary
The Mechanical Integrity Inspector will be based at the St. Louis Site and is responsible for executing inspection and testing activities that support an established Mechanical Integrity (MI) program. This role ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP) and recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP), while proactively identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability, inspection effectiveness, and program efficiency. The inspector serves as a key contributor to continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making, lessons learned, and collaboration with maintenance, engineering, and operations.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Mechanical Integrity Program
Develop and execute inspections and tests for covered equipment (e.g., pressure vessels, piping, tanks, PRDs, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, storage vessels, structural components) in accordance with the existing MI program, regulations, manufacturers recommendations and existing RAGAGEP.
Provide oversight of the MI program. Create PM’s and SOP’s for the MI program. Ensure inspections are performed within established intervals and documented accurately and completely.
Verify inspection and testing activities align with applicable codes, standards, internal procedures, and RAGAGEP.
Support management of change (MOC) activities by reviewing inspection requirements related to equipment modifications or replacements.
Identify trends, recurring deficiencies, or degradation mechanisms and recommend improvements to inspection scope, frequency, or methods.
Oversee MI program reviews and procedure implementation and updates, audits, and self-assessments, support corrective action development and closure.
Contribute to lessons learned from failures, near misses, and abnormal findings to strengthen the MI program.
Collaborate with project managers, contracted equipment inspectors, and other contracted personnel onsite. valuate inspection effectiveness, risk ranking, and prioritization strategies.
Analyzes and recommends budget spending required for outside services for inspections.
Perform other tasks as directed by senior management.
Welding Subject Matter Expert
Oversee welding processes performed by contractors.
Function as a company owner for qualified welder program.
Perform visual inspection for welds performed by internal employees.
Serves as the sites Certified Welding Inspector.
Inspection and Reporting
Perform field inspections, surveillances, and walkthroughs to confirm equipment condition and compliance with design and operating requirements.
Review and evaluate inspection reports from internal and third-party inspectors.
Clearly document inspection results, deficiencies, and recommendations in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or asset integrity management system.
Communicate inspection findings to maintenance, engineering, and operations to ensure timely remediation.
Coordinate with maintenance and operations to safely execute inspections without disrupting production.
Support planning and scheduling of inspection work during outages and routine operations.
Interface with third-party inspection firms, ensuring scope alignment and quality of deliverables.
Assist engineering with fitness-for-service evaluations, repair recommendations, and material selection.
Comply with existing procedures for program adherence and make recommendations for updates and improvements where gaps exist.
Collaborate with other Mallinckrodt process safety program owners/engineers to ensure seamless program integration through covered process boundaries and scoping, instrumented safety systems, and other process safety management areas.
Provide equipment data and help develop integrity operating windows (IOWs) and safe operating limits for equipment.
Compliance and Audit
Provide oversight and support external audits related to MI and process safety.
Function as an owner’s representative in quality assurance reviews for deliverables received from contracted inspection personnel.
Serves as the sites representative and single point of contact with the St. Louis City, for jurisdictional equipment inspections.
Assist with regulatory inspections by providing technical documents and inspection records.
Ensure deficiencies are tracked, mitigated, and closed in a timely manner.
REQUIREMENTS :
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Bachelor's degree in chemical, Mechanical, Maintenance Engineering or related field preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the development or execution of equipment inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance plans per API or ASME industry documents.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
API 570 certification required.
API 510 certification required.
API 653 certification required. STI SP001 Adjunct Certification preferred.
AWS Certified Weld Inspector certification required
Experience in developing custom inspection plans for pressure vessels (metallic and fiberglass), piping circuits, and storage tanks.
Proven experience in leading teams, groups or efforts relating to process equipment maintenance activities.
Knowledgeable with Process Safety Management (PSM) elements, including process technology, equipment design, Mechanical Integrity, and Management of Change.
Familiar in application of manufacturing operations i.e. cGMP's, validation, quality systems, document control and the impact of regulatory considerations on engineering initiatives.
Skills/Competencies:
Experience working with enterprise CMMS software such as Maximo preferred.
Knowledge of national and local regulations, codes, standards, and other RAGAGEPs pertaining to process safety and covered process safety equipment
Ability to balance compliance requirements with operational realities

Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word)
Advanced skills with Autodesk AutoCAD, P&IDs and other CAD software
