Director Research and Publications, USMA WHC

As a critical member of the US Medical Affairs team, the Director of Research and Publications WHC, will be responsible for the development and execution of high-quality research and publications for the disease area(s) which they are responsible for and connecting the vision for the brand(s) throughout its lifecycle. Ensure that all internal customers receive a high level of scientific and medical support for their business needs, while ensuring adherence to the highest standards of ethics and compliance. External stakeholders are supported through generation, dissemination, and communication of scientific and clinical data.

The Director will also maintain responsibility for expanding and maintaining the relationship and medical exchange with stakeholders, and the incorporation of customer insights into the development and implementation that is in line with US strategy. Provide medical and research expertise in the development and execution of the overarching medical strategies within their therapeutic area, offering critical inputs during design and throughout the end-to-end execution of programs. Lead the US publication team and define publication strategy within the therapeutic area, offer medical and research inputs to the evidence gaps, literature trends, stakeholder educational needs, formation of scientific messages, and dissemination of clinical trial and real-world evidence findings.

Partner with the Director of Research Strategy and Access (HEOR) lead in the strategic design and implementation of high-impact evidence generation projects supporting the WHC and brand . Active participation and effective collaboration with global teams to assure and support appropriate US direction of the Life Cycle Management strategy, publication focuses, and data generation priorities. Partner with the Director of Research Strategy and Access (HEOR) to develop and implement the Integrated Evidence Plans and functional programs to improve the value proposition for the portfolio and impact of Bayer medicines.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Director of Research and Publications, USMA WHC, are to:

  • Provide medical and research expertise in the development and execution of the overarching medical strategies within their therapeutic area, offering critical inputs during design and throughout the end-to-end execution of programs;

  • Lead the US publication team and define publication strategy within the therapeutic area, offer medical and research inputs to the evidence gaps, literature trends, stakeholder educational needs, formation of scientific messages, and dissemination of clinical trial and real-world evidence findings;

  • Partner with the Director of Research Strategy and Access (HEOR) lead in the strategic design and implementation of high-impact evidence generation projects supporting the WHC and brand;

  • Active participation and effective collaboration with global teams to assure and support appropriate US direction of the Life Cycle Management strategy, publication focuses, and data generation priorities;

  • Partner with the Director of Research Strategy and Access (HEOR) to develop and implement the Integrated Evidence Plans and functional programs to improve the value proposition for the portfolio and impact of Bayer medicines;

  • Provide medical scientific research and publication plans while ensuring design and execution of all medical activities are according to internal and external compliance guidelines. Lead cross-functional publication teams to develop, manage and implement the publication plan for WHC in the US;

  • The incumbent will build and update publication plans, and provide summary reports to partners. As well as maintain responsibility for executing publication plans through timely development of accurate and GPP compliant publication activities;

  • The publications lead will lead the publication projects/account(s) from a customer and medical content perspective, making use of strong project management, communication, and medical writing skills. Interact with both internal and external (KOLs, advisors, consultants) experts and medical organizations to develop collaborative research projects and publish scientific papers with high impact;

  • Plan, support, execute TL and stakeholder advisory meetings to gather feedback on relevant research or publication plans identified for assigned products and therapeutic area;

  • Will facilitate and support abstracts, posters, and oral presentations at scientific congresses, submission of manuscripts to scientific journals;

  • The individual will be responsible for adhering to and supporting all Bayer SOPs, which includes adhering to all publication & communication best practices (ICMJE and GPP3);

  • Contribute to Medical Affairs Research and Publication Plan In conjunction with the Senior MSLs Directors, MSLs, and MEs to generate and execute the Local Medical Plan and contribute to the development Brand Plan strategies by leveraging medical insights and knowledge about the product or disease area, in particular with reference to recent publications around patient’s needs and treatment.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • A Healthcare Professional Degree (PharmD, MD, RPh, PhD) is required:

  • Clinically relevant work experience or independent research experience or equivalent or past experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry or of extensive collaboration with the industry (e.g., lead PI and consultant, FDA employee or advisor);

  • A solid understanding of clinical study design, analysis and interpretation as well as the principles of observational studies and health economics/ outcomes research;

  • Demonstrated capability for strategic planning along with operations skill and experience related to clinical research involving both single and multiple centers;

  • Proven record of excellent project management skills and experience;

  • Strong ability to quickly build meaningful and trusting relationships, both internally and externally to the organization;

  • Understanding of the drug development process over different stages.;

  • Strong ability to connect and collaborate across different functions and background, both internally and externally to the organization;

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in written;

  • Willingness and ability to travel as business dictates, both for internal and external functions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years work experience in the pharmaceutical sector in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development or related positions;

  • Experience in leading and participating in teams across cultures and geographies, prior experience in global medical launch planning activities;

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex projects under challenging timelines;

  • Demonstrated ability to challenge and reform established practices to improve efficiency and outcomes.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $180,400 to $270,600. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
