NATURE OF WORK:\ In addition to duties as a criminal prosecutor and civil advisor, is second in responsibility to the Chief Deputy County Attorney and assumes all duties and responsibilities of the Chief Deputy in the Chief Deputy\'s absence.
CRIMINAL PROSECUTION ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:\ Research and analyze legal issues. Review all evidence in a case and make sound and ethical charging decisions. Prepare petitions, complaints, indictments, and information. Compose memoranda and pleadings regarding legal issues of concern. Interview witnesses regarding facts as needed. Negotiate settlement agreements in prosecution of cases. Work closely with Victims of crime to ensure that their rights are upheld. Maintain a prosecution caseload while fulfilling other job duties. Discuss and present analysis of legal issues. Coordinate closely with office staff to facilitate accomplishment of the aims of criminal prosecution, including justice, professionalism, and efficiency. Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by the Chief Deputy or the County Attorney.
CIVIL PROSECUTION ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:\ Duties may include all or some of the following: working with various Apache County Departments, school districts, and special tax districts to advise, assist, and reduce liability exposure arising out of employment practices; assisting in the development and refinement of various County-wide personnel policies and procedures that reduce or mitigate losses or damages to the County and defending employment actions, claims, and suits against the County or seeing that such cases are referred to appropriate legal counsel; providing advice and/or written legal opinions for the County Manager and Board of Supervisors; research and analyze legal issues; compose memoranda and pleading regarding legal issues of concern as needed in assigned cases; question witnesses in deposition and courtroom settings; organizes large volumes of documentary material; investigates and evaluates liability claims and lawsuits; negotiates settlement of cases as needed. Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by the Chief Deputy or the County Attorney.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATION / LICENSE REQUIRED:\ A. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:\ Strong background in and knowledge of the principles and practices of criminal prosecution in a county attorneys office, management, administration, and personnel. Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
B. Education or Equivalency:\ Minimum education requirement is a Juris Doctor degree.
C. Experience:\ Preference will be given to those with a strong experiential history in both criminal and civil\ prosecution. Additional preference may also be given to applicants with litigation experience in criminal prosecution.
D. Certification / Licenses:\ Must be a member of the Arizona Bar Association in good standing.
(Position is in classified service and is FLSA non-exempt)
This position hourly pay is \$47.74
