Position Title:Material Handler
Location:St. Charles, MO
Schedule:1st Shift
Position Summary:The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing materials, parts, and products within a fast-paced warehouse and manufacturing facility. This role ensures materials are properly handled, organized, and available for production, assembly, or shipping efficiently and safely, keeping up with the demands of a dynamic work environment.
- Load and properly store incoming metal, wood, and sheet goods onto racks upon delivery.
- Receive, unload, and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and invoices.
- Inspect materials for damage or discrepancies and report issues promptly.
- Retrieve parts from the parts room, deliver fabricated components to teams, and transport materials throughout the shop.
- Utilize computer systems for basic inventory tracking and documentation.
- Collaborate with production, shipping, and receiving teams to maintain efficient workflow in a fast-paced environment.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify supervisors to prevent material shortages.
- Pick, pack, and stage materials for production and shipment.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist with cycle counts, inventory audits, and related documentation to ensure accuracy.
- Support other areas of the shop during downtime to maintain productivity.
- Follow all safety protocols and company policies related to material handling and equipment use.
- Maintain a clean and organized warehouse and storage areas to ensure a safe working environment.
Required Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1 year of prior material handling experience.
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations accurately.
- Ability to learn and safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Knowledgeable of basic computer skills for inventory tracking, data entry, and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail with solid organizational skills.
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and small powered equipment.
- Commitment to workplace safety, including proactively identifying and addressing potential hazards.
- Ability to understand and follow general work instructions and directions.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to support both internal and external customers.
- Proven ability to multi-task and problem-solve in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to learn inventory management systems and software.
- Flexibility to work overtime, as needed, to meet production demands.
- Must demonstrate a consistent and stable work history, along with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Class E license (also referred to as a Chauffer\'s license) and clean driving record to operate company vehicles.
- Experience material handling with metal and wood in an industrial work environment.
- Experience with an overhead crane.
- Forklift certification or other warehouse equipment certifications.
- Experience with inventory management systems or warehouse management software.
Physical Requirements:
Physically able to stand up to 8+ hours per day.
Must have the ability to hear and respond to auditory signals, distinguish tones and pitches in equipment, and use hearing protection during specific tasks.
Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
