Job Title: Supplier Development EngineerJob Description
We are seeking a skilled Supplier Development Engineer to act as a crucial link between suppliers and our engineering, manufacturing, and customer support departments. In this role, you will manage existing suppliers, primarily machine shops, fabrication shops, and assembly shops, while seeking to expand and enhance the supply base. You will be responsible for evaluating supplier capabilities, leading onboarding and development initiatives, and driving improvements in cost, quality, and delivery performance across the supply chain, including international sourcing options.
Responsibilities
Evaluate supplier manufacturing capabilities, capacity, and quality systems.
Support the onboarding of new suppliers into the Approved Supplier List.
Develop and implement supplier improvement plans focused on cost, quality, and delivery performance.
Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with manufacturing partners.
Coach suppliers on best practices related to documentation, finishing processes, and quality assurance.
Serve as a technical liaison between Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and external suppliers.
Analyze bills of material (BOMs) and technical drawings to identify key requirements and cost-reduction opportunities.
Share expertise in acceptable manufacturing methods for parts, assemblies, tooling, and equipment.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Purchasing, Engineering, and Project Management teams to align supplier capabilities with project requirements.
Essential Skills
5+ years of technical manufacturing experience in machining, fabrication, or assembly.
5+ years of experience selecting new suppliers and managing existing ones.
Proficiency in blueprint reading, GD&T, and engineering drawings.
Experience in negotiating contracts and quotations with contract manufacturers and suppliers.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40%.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general PC/networking skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
Experience with Visual Manufacturing database is preferred.
Knowledge of quality management systems and methodologies is preferred.
Work Environment
Our organization designs and builds a wide spectrum of equipment for various manufacturing applications, focusing on high-quality output. You will join a team of industry veterans who are experts in manufacturing processes and equipment design. The Supplier Development Group currently consists of three members, but will soon require a sole leader to manage the responsibilities. The work culture is akin to a family environment, with many long-standing employees. Travel is required up to 40%, with many suppliers located in-state, some out-of-state, and in Mexico. Travel typically occurs for about one week per month.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
