In operation since 2007, Safford operations is a zero-discharge facility and one of the most sustainable mines in the United States. The operation’s commitment to utilizing advanced technologies and sustainable practices strongly emphasizes safety and environmental stewardship. Located in southeastern Arizona, close to more than 4 million acres of national forest, employees and their families can connect with the great outdoors while fishing, rafting, hiking and more. Several educational institutions also are nearby, including a Northern Arizona University satellite campus, Eastern Arizona College, and the Gila Institute for Technology.
Description
Under general direction, plan, organize, manage and control the daily operation of the Accounting/Finance programs and systems for assigned site.
Plan, organize and direct financial and accounting functions, including tax activities, internal auditing, budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, receipts and disbursements, general journals, fixed assets, financial statements and cost reports and analysis
Ensure that department responsibilities are performed and completed in a timely and accurate manner
Prepare forecasts and profit and loss statements
Provide historical data
Compile and produce annual budget along with analysis to departments for variance analysis and cost reduction
Develop, implement and assess short and long term programs, goals and objectives for accounting department
Ensure that accounting practices, records, controls and decisions are made according to GAAP, company policy and State and Federal controls
As a member of the site Management Team, collaborate in the development of tactical and strategic plans
Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for Accounting function and all other departments at assigned site
Assist department heads with their budget preparation
Provide site management with information and advice, including recommendations on selection of audit firms and other financial matters
Evaluate and contract with vendors for the provision of accounting and financial services and equipment
Represent site on company-sponsored steering teams
Provide leadership and work direction
Evaluate the performance of subordinate accounting staff
Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related area and seven (7) years of broad-based accounting/reporting experience, including three (3) years of management/leadership experience;
OR
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related area and five (5) years of broad-based accounting/reporting experience, including three (3) years of management/leadership experience
Possesses and applies advanced knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures in accounting, budgeting and financial analysis
Knowledge of and the ability to interpret State laws, regulations, and guidelines governing all aspects of mining operations including those relative to auditing, purchasing, risk management, budgeting and accounting
Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
Ability to utilize personal computers and associated software, including Microsoft Office applications and relational databases
Skill in supervising, evaluating, training and motivating employees
Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written
Preferred
- Previous experience in the mining industry
Criteria/Conditions
Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
Work is mostly performed in an office setting. Occasionally work will be performed in a mine, outdoor or manufacturing plant setting
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see
Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds during the course of the workday
Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and other protective equipment as required
*What We Offer You *
The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $110,000-$155,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance. Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration. Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
