Description We are looking for a skilled Referral Coordinator to join our team on a long-term contract basis at our eye specialty clinic in Sacramento, California. In this role, you will manage and coordinate specialty referrals, ensuring seamless transitions for patients requiring advanced ophthalmological care. This position is ideal for individuals with experience in referral coordination and proficiency in electronic health record systems.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate incoming and outgoing referrals for specialized ophthalmology services, ensuring timely and accurate processing of all required information.
• Utilize electronic health record systems to manage referrals, track patient progress, and communicate effectively with healthcare providers.
• Act as the primary liaison between patients, providers, and external facilities to schedule appointments and provide updates on referral statuses.
• Collect necessary clinical documentation, verify insurance coverage, and obtain prior authorizations for specialty referrals.
• Follow up with patients and healthcare providers to ensure all referral-related tasks are completed efficiently.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of referral procedures and insurance requirements specific to ophthalmology services.
• Support front desk operations during busy periods by assisting with patient access functions.
• Monitor referral workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and patient satisfaction. Requirements
• Proven experience as a referral coordinator or in a similar role within a healthcare setting.
• Proficiency in using electronic health record systems (EPIC required) for managing patient referrals and records.
• Strong understanding of referral processes, including insurance verification and prior authorization procedures.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a clinical team.
• High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in healthcare administration is advantageous.
• Familiarity with medical terminology related to ophthalmology or optometry is preferred.
• Previous experience in an eye specialty or optometry clinic is highly desirable.
