The Engineering and Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role within the Pharma Services business, contributing to the achievement of business unit KPIs by supporting operational and engineering teams in the operation and maintenance of facilities, utilities, and process equipment throughout their lifecycle. This position is directly responsible for managing the Maintenance Engineering function.
Responsibilities
Operate and maintain facility equipment including utility systems, HVAC, and other systems on a routine basis.
Supervise shift activities, train team members, and possess strong troubleshooting skills for facility and process equipment.
Exhibit deep knowledge in engineering and maintenance activities specific to the pharmaceutical industry's fill finish/sterile fill finish processes.
Reduce maintenance costs while improving asset reliability and availability through the implementation of enhanced maintenance techniques.
Provide technical expertise and advice on process equipment such as bag, vial, and PFS filling lines, formulation systems, and autoclaves.
Manage a skilled, multi-discipline maintenance workforce, facilitating daily operations, task execution, training, and personal development.
Perform inspections of areas, equipment, and items to ensure regulatory and quality compliance.
Perform preventive maintenance activities on all process and facility equipment.
Oversee the operation and maintenance of boilers, hot water generators, chillers, air compressors, AHUs, PW generation and distribution, WFI storage and distribution, and pure steam generation and distribution.
Support facilities supervision in construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment and utilities.
Oversee electrical and mechanical system startup and commissioning, coordinating with subcontractors and construction management activities.
Develop maintenance and calibration programs with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.
Maintain accurate records for operations, including supply inventories, reports, mechanical equipment lists, purchase orders, warranties, parts lists, and operating instructions.
Prepare engineering SOPs and ensure team compliance with cGMP standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with at least 8 years of experience or a master's degree with 5+ years of experience.
Experience in engineering and maintenance in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices and applicable GxP regulations and standards.
Proactive approach with strong critical thinking skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Work Environment
The role operates within a highly regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, primarily on-site in sterile fill-finish, utilities, and mechanical spaces. It is a fast-paced setting that combines hands-on troubleshooting with shift supervision to minimize equipment downtime and support production. The environment requires strict adherence to GMP/GxP standards, SOPs, inspections, and detailed documentation. Daily work involves people leadership, technical problem-solving, and cross-functional coordination with operations, quality, and engineering teams.

This is a Contract position based out of Sacramento, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $40.00/hr.
