Pear Rd.\ Area of Interest: Social Services\ Salary/ Hourly Rate: \$14.71 - \$18.31\ Tribal Driving Permit Required: Yes\ DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:\ The Cook plans and prepares meals for children and/or elderly in assigned department of the Gila River Indian\ Community in accordance with planned menus and regulations. The Cook is responsible for food inventory and\ recordkeeping.\ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Cook and prepare food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and/or snacks (including sack lunches and snacks for field\ trips or other special activities) in accordance with planned menus and regulations; prepare meals according\ to meal count to prevent food waste.

Clean stove, grill, sinks, refrigerators, cupboards, storage area and cooking utensils daily in compliance with\ Environmental Health Standards.

Ensure the floor is kept clean and free from spills.

Prepare, measure, and mix food ingredients according to recipe, using a variety of kitchen utensils and\ equipment such as blenders, mixers, grinders, slices, and tenderizers to prepare soups, salads, gravies, and\ casseroles.

Observe and test food being cooked by tasting and smelling to determine that it is cooked properly.

Completes requests for food and food service related items to ensure that adequate supplies are available at\ all times.

Complete and maintain food and beverage inventory records.

Complete and maintain refrigerator/freezer temperature logs.

Portion menu ingredients for distribution to kitchens. (Applies to Elderly Nutrition only)

Serves food to children and/or elderly according to nutrition guidelines.

Perform other related duties as assigned.\ REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

Knowledge of food and nutrition requirements.

Knowledge of the use and care of kitchen appliances used in the preparation of food.

Knowledge of menu formulation, food service, nutritional care, sanitation, and kitchen equipment use.

Knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations pertinent to commercial food handling.

Knowledge of the proper storage and handling of food items.

Knowledge of institutional cooking, quantity and quality, and following program prescribed menus.

Knowledge of dietary needs of the population served.

Skill in preparing, cooking, and serving foods according to dietary needs of the clients.

Ability to life and move large, heavy, and/or bulky ports and food supplies.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to adhere to all health and safety rules.

Ability to attend pre-service and in-service training and workshops.

Ability to maintain confidential information of the center and/or program.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials\ and the public.

Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.\ REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:\ High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years experience in commercial food services, instructional food\ services, or high volume food and meal preparation.\ Preferred experience in preparing meals according to specialized diets.\ ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Currently hold a GRIC Food Handler Certification or other comparable Food Handler certification.

ServSafe Food Handler Certification is preferred (Appl es to CSD only).

Maintain current CPR & First Aid Certification or obtain certification within 60 days of employment.

Must pass a Physical Examination and a TB skin test; provide proof/results, including updated immunization\ records prior to hire date of employment. Physical Examination and TB skin test must also be completed\ annually and provide proof/results.

Must pass an Initial Health Examination and a TB skin test; provide proof/results, including updated\ immunization records prior to hire date (Applies to Head Start Only)

Required to pass a background check.

Tribal Operators permit can be required.\ Inclusive of the additional requirements above, specific requirements to the department are the following:\ RPY, Child Care Development Center, and Head Start Positions:

Required mandatory reporter pursuant to Title 7, Chapter 2 (7.205), B.

Required to attend Title 7 Mandatory Reporting training on a yearly basis.

Required to pass a background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must\ continue to maintain throughout duration of employment. Background checks are required for positions that\ involve regular contact with or control over Community Children
