Position Description

The St. David’s School of Nursing (https://www.nursing.txst.edu/) ( SON ) atTexas State University (https://www.txst.edu/) ( TXST ) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated leader to assist in managing the daily operations of the SON , with an emphasis on supporting the Accelerated Online Programs.

This individual will play a key role in advancing the growth of our programs in alignment with the vision, mission, and strategic plans of the SON ,College of Health Professions (https://www.health.txst.edu/) and University. TXST operates from multiple locations in San Marcos and Round Rock, Texas, serving over 40,000 students and employing more than 7,000 faculty and staff. The University offers 99 bachelor’s, 92 master’s and specialist’s, and 20 doctoral degree programs across colleges including Applied Arts, McCoy College of Business, Education, Fine Arts and Communication, Health Professions, Liberal Arts, Science and Engineering, The Graduate College, and Honors College. Reporting to the Director of the SON , this nine-month, non-tenure track appointment—with an additional required summer contract—will be part of the SON leadership team. In collaboration with the SON Director, the Assistant Director of Operations/Global Programs will oversee and support curriculum design and evaluation; coordinate accreditation and compliance activities; assist with administrative operations such as faculty hiring, onboarding, development, evaluation, and workload management; act as a liaison between the Director, faculty, and students to facilitate communication; and provide oversight and support for student didactic, simulation, and clinical experiences.

Responsibilities include teaching, course and curriculum development, research and scholarship, and participation in the SON , College, and University committees or initiatives. The rank and salary for this position will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications

For all ranks:

  • Earned Doctorate in nursing or related field from a regionally and nationally accredited University.

  • Earned Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a regionally and nationally accredited University. Earned Master’s and/or Doctorate degree in Nursing or related field. If the graduate degrees are in another field, at least 12 graduate level credit hours in nursing must be completed.

  • At least two years of experience as a nursing program dean/director in a higher education setting.

  • Five or more years of clinical experience in a health care setting.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal collegial relationships, communication and leadership skills.

  • At least five years’ experience as a faculty member in nursing education programs.

  • Evidence of leadership in nursing curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation.

  • Evidence of leadership in academic nursing accreditation and compliance.

  • Current unencumbered registered nursing license in the State of Texas or eligible for licensure.

  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning consistent with the program vision, mission, and goals as evidenced by a presentation during the campus visit with faculty.

For the rank of Clinical Associate Professor, in addition to those required above:

  • A demonstrated record of accomplishments or activities in scholarship, teaching, and service.

  • A minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience in higher education.

For the rank of Clinical Professor, in addition to those required above:

  • A demonstrated record of significant contributions in teaching, scholarship, and service, supporting advanced expertise and leadership in the chosen clinical field and academic area.

  • A minimum of 10 years of full-time teaching experience at the university level.

The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and school established standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with leading new program development and implementation at multiple levels of nursing education.

  • Experience in mentorship, recruitment, hiring, retention and evaluation of faculty.

  • Experience with accreditation processes, procedures, preparation and implementation of site visits for multiple levels of nursing education.

  • Experience with maintaining compliance with state, regional, and federal regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and institutional policies.

  • Familiarity with alternative teaching styles, including, but not limited to, simulation, virtual reality, online learning, telehealth and best practices in nursing education.

  • Record of successful grant funding with strong potential for additional funding.

  • Leadership on academic committees and/or professional organizations.

  • Experience in building and promoting community relationships and partnerships in clinical or academic settings.
