Job Title: Mechanical Engineer - Sensor Integration and Controls
Job Description
We are seeking a talented engineer to support mechanical systems architecture and design efforts for a large industrial power system, focusing on controls, industrial sensors, and instrumentation. You will be deeply involved in integrating systems instrumentation and controls plans from a mechanical systems perspective, coordinating changes in system architecture and design, and influencing the integration of sensors and instrumentation to meet system needs.
Responsibilities
Coordinate with a team of instrumentation and controls engineers on system architecture and design changes.
Influence design segments through the integration of sensors, instrumentation, and controls.
Utilize 3D CAD for component and systems review, commenting, and planning systems architecture.
Outline and adjust sensor types, selection, and mechanical systems architecture for sensor/instrumentation layout.
Cross-coordinate with internal teams and stakeholders, and communicate system updates in meetings and to leadership.
Work with mechanical integration teams to coordinate testing of sensors and instrumentation to meet quality/performance specifications.
Select and specify various controllers and PLCs to maintain the sensors and instrumentation environment.
Essential Skills
Expertise in instrumentation and controls systems and industrial sensors (environmental and stress).
Experience with industrial automation and PLCs.
Mechanical systems design and development experience.
Experience with overall systems-level architecture and component selection.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
5-15 years of relevant experience.
Experience or interest in industrial systems and equipment.
Knowledge of industrial controls and PLCs.
Experience with controllers and PLCs for specific applications.
Previous experience in product design and development or implementation of new controls/sensors plans.
Experience with industrial sensors, sensor selection, and systems architecture of sensor systems.
Knowledge of comms protocols, IO module knowledge, 3D CAD design, and PLC programming is beneficial.
Strong interpersonal communication skills for collaboration with teams and stakeholders.
Experience in highly regulated environments is a plus.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockville, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.
