Brief Job Overview

This is a hands-on, non-supervisory position in USP’s Reference Standards Laboratory. Laboratory responsible for maintaining laboratory operations. The incumbent will utilize their technical expertise, organizational skills and initiative to maintain day-to-day laboratory functions.

The Laboratory Technician has the following responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of laboratory consumables—including solvents, reagents, column logs, and other supplies—and management of inventory for U/HPLC, GC, and IC columns, including check-in, disposal, and database updates. Assisting scientists, as needed.

  • Oversight of sample archival, sample tracking and chemical inventory in the laboratory.

  • Equipment and instrument calibrations.

  • Preparation of chemical solutions and reagents in collaboration with laboratory staff.

  • Working with USP Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), oversee laboratory waste management and disposal.

  • Coordination with internal USP personnel and serving as a lab point of contact for instrument maintenance scheduling, repair, new instrument installation and documentation.

  • Collaboration with USP Facilities on activities impacting the laboratory and updates to laboratory staff.

  • Safety walkthroughs in RSL laboratories.

  • Participation in laboratory maintenance (clean-ups) and assistance with keeping the laboratory “audit-ready”.

  • Equipment logbook reviews to ensure proper documentation and order new logbooks as needed.

  • Equipment calibration and maintenance forms submissions.

  • Supplies and/or reagents ordering.

  • Assists in glassware washing and organization.

  • Interacting with laboratory staff, and/or laboratory management, and/or other departments to address any observations, corrections, opportunities for improvements.

  • Collaborating with USP employees on possible improvements in serving their professional needs.

  • Assistance with administrative tasks as needed.

Who is USP Looking For?

  • High School diploma with 10 years of experience in a laboratory or production setting, or;

  • Associate degree and at least 6 years of experience in a laboratory or production setting, or;

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • In select cases, a combination of specialized training or notable scientific achievements may substitute for required experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory operations, preferably within an analytical or pharmaceutical environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Previous hands-on laboratory experience, solution prep, disposal.

  • Ability to manipulate, lift and move equipment, reagents and lab materials may be necessary.

Compensation

Base Hourly Range: USD $29.54 – $36.87 per hour.

Target Annual Bonus: % Varies based on level of role.

Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate’s skill set, experience, qualifications, equity, and other job-related reasons.
