Skilled Laborer - Marine Construction

Rockland, ME | Contract-to-Hire | $20 - $21

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity to build a long-term career in marine construction by working as part of a small crew to construct docks, piers, and retaining walls. As a General Laborer, you will support experienced team members on a variety of waterfront projects, using hand and power tools, performing physically demanding tasks, and contributing to the safe and efficient completion of each job. Responsibilities

  • Work as an active member of a 3–4 person crew on marine construction projects, including docks, piers, and retaining walls.

  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to assist with construction tasks.

  • Perform general labor duties such as loading, unloading, and moving materials and equipment on job sites.

  • Lift, carry, and handle materials in accordance with standard weight requirements, including regular lifting up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting up to 70 pounds.

  • Support concrete work and other construction activities as directed by crew leaders.

  • Follow instructions from experienced crew members and demonstrate a strong willingness to learn new skills in the marine construction trade.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area on job sites and around equipment.

  • Assist with setup and breakdown of job sites, including staging materials and tools.

  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines while working on and around the water.

Essential Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with tools and equipment.

  • Demonstrated learning mentality and willingness to develop skills in marine construction.

  • Ability to meet standard weight lifting requirements of 50 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 70 pounds.

  • Basic knowledge and safe use of common hand tools.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding labor for extended periods in an outdoor environment.

  • Previous construction laborer experience preferred but not required; this position is suitable for entry-level candidates.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in general labor or construction environments.

  • Familiarity with concrete work and basic construction techniques.

  • Experience using power tools in a safe and controlled manner.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small, close-knit crew.

  • Reliable transportation to various job sites within the Midcoast Maine area.

Work Environment

Work takes place outdoors across Midcoast Maine on waterfront and over-water job sites. You will work in a small crew setting, often in variable weather conditions and on uneven or wet surfaces. The role is physically demanding and involves regular lifting, carrying, and moving of materials and equipment. Hand tools and power tools are used daily, and strict adherence to safety practices around water and construction equipment is essential. Work attire should be appropriate for outdoor construction, including durable clothing and footwear suitable for marine and construction environments.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockport, ME.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
