Equipment Operator -- Grading & Heavy Civil Construction Company: Wylie Construction, Inc. Location: Rock Springs, WY (and surrounding project sites) Position Summary Wylie Construction is seeking a highly skilled Equipment Operator with proven experience in fine grading ("blue topping") using a motor grader, along with the ability to safely and efficiently operate a variety of heavy construction equipment. This role is critical to delivering precise subgrade and finish grades on roadway, site development, and utility projects. Key Responsibilities Perform fine grading and blue topping to tight tolerances using laser or stringline controls Operate heavy equipment including: o Motor graders o Excavators o Dozers o Loaders o Skid steers and compaction equipment Read and interpret plans, grade stakes, and survey data Maintain proper grade, drainage, and compaction requirements Coordinate with foremen and survey crews to ensure production and accuracy Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance Follow all safety procedures and jobsite requirements Assist with general site work as needed Qualifications Minimum 3--5+ years of experience, with strong emphasis on motor grader and finish grading work Ability to blue top within tight tolerances (±0.05' preferred) Strong understanding of grading, drainage, and earthwork practices Ability to read plans and grade sheets Valid driver's license (CDL preferred) MSHA certification or willingness to obtain (preferred) Skills & Expectations High level of precision and attention to grade Keep track of quantities and use company technology to track jobs and hours Production-focused mindset, ability to keep pace on high-output jobs Strong safety awareness Reliable, self-motivated, and team-oriented Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and varying schedules as needed Work Environment Outdoor work in varying weather conditions Physically demanding, including entering/exiting equipment frequently Projects include roadway construction, utilities, sitework, and industrial work Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly wage based on experience Overtime opportunities 401(k) available after one year of service Why Wylie Construction Wylie Construction is a high-production heavy civil contractor focused on precision earthwork and infrastructure.
